edit: I don't find lack of knowledge that cringeworthy, because I don't know a lot of things either. I can't be bothered with geography myself either because I don't find it interesting or useful for what I do. I know major locations around the world (because those are useful to know for art purposes in terms of architecture and stuff like that) and I know few parts of my own country but that's it. If I need to know about geography I'll just google it instead of memorizing it lol. What I find cringeworthy are stubborn assumptions and lack of common sense or logic

what about lack of basic knowledge? for me anyway not knowing the simplest of things can be pretty cringeworthy especially if it's covered at school or is really well known. granted, not everyone is a geographical whizz but this question still seemed pretty basic to me and I'm not from the US.

If you put it that way, I guess yeah but lack of (basic) knowledge can depend on multiple outside factors (maybe his school was just shitty etc.) so I don't really hold it against someone and I don't really hold it against someone if it's unrelated to their work either. Like, I wouldn't know the capitals of the 12 provinces of the Netherlands myself either and I live there. I know the capital of my home province and the capital of the country but that's it.
But yeah, his answer was just silly. He should've known that Mexico is an entirely different country and even if you can't name your states/countries, you should have a global idea of where is what I guess lol
