the what? (sorry, i'm out of the loop of everything. all i do is play games, so i dont know any current news about anything)Originally posted by IAMTHEEVILBEANThe nintendo DS and Nintendo Revolution are the future of video games. So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(
In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz.
So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright.
And I write the blog for their website.
Plus I do cool programming in-house that you'll never see. =OComment

Me.
Keep an eye out for me in the gaming industry.
And I think that the blending (or bleeding) of genres is going to be the next thing. More interactive games like Dance Dance Revolution. And of course better graphics.Comment

yes, genre blendning will be bigger. it's already starting with RPG-like character classes and experience in FPS games like Wolfenstein.
and keep an eye out for me too. once i make my ultimate awesome game of all greatness, u will all only play that. well, at least i will, because if it turns out how i see it in my head (and i will work on it until it does) it will be the best game ever (at least for me).So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =(

I think that videogames are attempting to progress to the point where all games are just run in a holodeck, like on Star Trek. That would be the furthest you could ever go. Where YOU become the character, and its so real, that you won't know you're playing a game.
There are some drawbacks here tho. For one, you'd need a strict set of ratings for the programs or games. Some people could have medical conditions that would cause them serious harm from getting too excited, frightened, etc. Also, I'm sure something like that would cost billions of dollars, so you'd have to design many games to be multiplayer. Also, you would have people interacting with the games too much, and causing big problems to themselves. IE: Falling in love with a game character.
So yeah, even with that being as cool as it is, there's no real way to make it happen, at least safely that is.Comment

that was exactly the point i was going to make. The thing is with the constant progression of video games is that it always has to be controlled by somebody. If the person who has control loses it, or someone else takes over it can always be used the wrong way. Picture all these new things happening.. interactive games.. real world graphics.. mutant beast running around in this game world.. and then people being stuck in the game where they CAN'T WIN. They could find a way to reprogram any online game and just turn it around so that it is ruined forever. And, with the online adaptations you have to incorporate anti-virus software and anti-hacking precautions and such. These things can't always be done by the snap of the finger.. i know.. it would be amazing to walk around in a whole new world.. live an amazing life.. then be able to return to your normal life 15 minutes later after saving. But, the problem is people. You can't control what way they want to control these things and what they could do with it. And my idea is.. the internet actually being something you can navigate like a video game.. if anyone has ever seen the show Megaman: Nt Warrior... they uses programs with little robots to run around the internets, fight viruses and communicate with everyone... pretty cool stuff if ya ask me..

Two words.
"The World."
Two more words if you didn't get that:

You know you play too many videogames when you start thinking like me...the other day I walked past a lake, looked at it and thought "wow, nice water effects." It took me a full second to realize what I said.Comment

Goo...that's a pretty bad one. I thought we needed to cut back on the Halo a bit when my roommate yelled, in his sleep, "Oh shit, guys, they have our flag!", followed by "Sorry I'm not playing too well; I'm really tired."Originally posted by Anticrombie0909

Anyway, I think VR is still waaaaay in the future, and that the near future doesn't hold too much impressive stuff. I don't think the technologically innovative (to an extreme) gadgets like the DS will catch on; for the most part, gamers want to stick to their roots and have the new technology go mainly towards graphics. Fullness of gameplay is where it's at. I expect players to have more and more freedom in their actions and a wider range of consequences in the future for all game types. Programmers now can do that, but it'd take much time and effort, and increase game sizes. I just think it'll be easier to expand the gameplay.
