Re: Guitar Hero 4 or Rock Band 2: Which is Better?
I've been following this for sometime. The premium drumset you are refering to will not ship with any version of rockband. you will have to buy it seperately, the price tag is at $300, and comes with 2 cymbols and 1 foot pedal. you can buy an extra cymbol for about $50 and same goes for the extra pedal. Also: RB2 will be using the better drum kit: 4 pads, 3 cymbals, and potentially double kick. If the second pedal is functional as hihat pedal when relevant, this will support full function of all parts of a basic accoustic kit. The GH kit, however, has 3 pads, 2 cymbals, and a pedal. This means one of their pads should be dedicated snare with 2 toms; long story short, 2 toms are not enough differentiation in that department. And cymbals... should be 1 hihat, 1 crash, and 1 ride; with GH's setup, they'll have to consolidate, probably the ride and crash.
And yeah, RB2's best kit I am alluding to requires extra add-ons, but even the basic kit isn't bad compared to the GH one... I'd still say the basic 4 pads is a better setup than GH's 3 pads with 2 dedicated cymbals.
what you get for your money is super sensitive pads, that are very quiet, same goes for the cymbols aswell as a Metal frame where all 4 pads are adjustable in angle and position.
of course this is made by Ion, which has some respectable electronic music equipment. They are also saying that the drumset will function with any other game that has drums in a similar layout, aswell as any computer.
from what i hear the drumset shipping with RB2: speical edition will be similar to the preexisting one, only quietier, and one would hope more accurate.
as for what im doing... i have rockband speical edition currently. im buying the premium drumset from ion, and just the game of both GH4 and RB2.Comment

The cymbals are also able to be attached onto the standard issue kit.I've been following this for sometime. I assure you this standard kit can be bought in a bundle and it does not cost 300$.
The major difference between these two kits (aside from the quality of the structure) is that the 300$ comes with 2 cymbals, while the standard one comes with none. If you want extra cymbals, you'll be having to buy 1 with the 300$ kit, or 3 with the cheaper standard kit. I have yet to hear what the individual pricing on the cymbals is gonna be, but I don't expect them to be too cheap.
Aside from "metal frame" and "adjustable in angle and position", what you described can also be applied to the standard kit. It's true that the ION kit comes with 2 cymbals, but for the full experience you'll need to buy more, just like you would on the basic kit anyway.what you get for your money is super sensitive pads, that are very quiet, same goes for the cymbols aswell as a Metal frame where all 4 pads are adjustable in angle and position.
I don't believe it will work with GH4, given what Activision did with compatibility between RB and GH3. Can you think of any other drum based games which would make use of a full set? It'd probably work great for a computer based drum simulator (as an aside, how long you think it'll take someone to design a drum sequencer that will function in a similar way to the way a edrum brain would?).of course this is made by Ion, which has some respectable electronic music equipment. They are also saying that the drumset will function with any other game that has drums in a similar layout, aswell as any computer.
It also has ports for cymbals and a MUCH better kick pedal. And correct me if I'm wrong, but I want to say they made the structure a bit more durable, particularly on the side (did they add buttresses or something?).from what i hear the drumset shipping with RB2: speical edition will be similar to the preexisting one, only quietier, and one would hope more accurate.
Good luck playing drums on GH4. You know, they're also doing a premium kit for GH4... Logitech, I think. Kind of a weird choice if you ask me. Wait. Isn't the RB mic a Logitech mic?as for what im doing... i have rockband speical edition currently. im buying the premium drumset from ion, and just the game of both GH4 and RB2.

Re: Guitar Hero 4 or Rock Band 2: Which is Better?
yup your right about that.
I like to think the major difference is the quality structure/pads aswell as everything being adjustable, which makes a huge difference to people who actually play the drums, also being able to double as a drum simulator on the computer. The cymbals themselves only double as the preexisting pads so they are not essential and thus (for me atleast) not the major selling point. The major difference between these two kits (aside from the quality of the structure) is that the 300$ comes with 2 cymbals, while the standard one comes with none. If you want extra cymbals, you'll be having to buy 1 with the 300$ kit, or 3 with the cheaper standard kit. Yup this is true aswell. right now you can pre-order the cymbal expansion set (one cymbol plus bar) on the ion website for $49.99 so to get all three on the original set would cost $150. (assuming they are planning on using the same quality ones as ion's for the SE drumset. and not a cheap looking one like the GH4 style.)Aside from "metal frame" and "adjustable in angle and position", what you described can also be applied to the standard kit. It's true that the ION kit comes with 2 cymbals, but for the full experience you'll need to buy more, just like you would on the basic kit anyway.
This is directly form Ion's FAQ aobut the drumset.I don't believe it will work with GH4, given what Activision did with compatibility between RB and GH3. It'd probably work great for a computer based drum simulator (as an aside, how long you think it'll take someone to design a drum sequencer that will function in a similar way to the way a edrum brain would?).
Q: Will it be compatible with Guitar Hero 4:World tour?
A: Drum Rocker was designed specifically for use with the Rock Band franchise. However, if other music games use the same standard drum controller mapping that Rock Band uses, then Drum Rocker should work with those games as well.
while it isn't final, it seems that if GH4 will let you play the drums with the xbox controller, they will also allow it with another drusmet.
Your right here again aswell. althought it has ports of cymbals (i think only 2 ports thus only 2 cymbols i might be wrong though) and a better kick pedal. the pedal is better then the original set, but not better then the Ion set. and i am not sure on the durability of the set, but from pictures I've seen it has no new support bars, and appears to have the same structure as before.
once again im pretty sure it will work fine under GH4 although the position of the colors are not the same. and yes i was aware of the premium kit insturments for GH4 but as of right now it doesn't interest me. and if it turns out to be something leaps and bounds ahead of the Ion kit, i'll just get that aswell.Comment

Rock Band uses 4 colored pads as the standard, GH uses 5 (3 drum, 2 cymbal).Drum Rocker was designed specifically for use with the Rock Band franchise. GH does NOT use the "same standard drum controller mapping that Rock Band uses". It uses it's own, because it is base 5 instead of base 4.

Guitar Hero is way more fun than Rockband. Rockband, way too repetitive.Comment

Re: Guitar Hero 4 or Rock Band 2: Which is Better?
when you play rockband on the drums, you find out quickly that the 5th button is the pedal (the orange note) GH4 says there is no on screen corrispondent to their pedal, as far as i've heard.
i think they ment key mapping rather then pad placement. so yes the rockband pedal would be the orange drum cymbal in GH4, and the yellow pad would corrispond to the yellow cymbal in GH4, but the controller should still work. you will just be hitting different parts of the drumset.Comment

You're very annoying. Stick up for something worth sticking up for.
Or at least don't be such a douche about it.
You're always like this to everyone who dislikes something you like, or vice versa.

Re: Guitar Hero 4 or Rock Band 2: Which is Better?
Anyways, just a quick question, kinda off topic, what about Rock Revolution?
Out of all the games that are going 2 be released this fall: Guitar Hero 4, Rock Band 2, and Rock Revolution, which one will be the least successful?
For the record, I'm gonna say Rock Revolution.Comment

That's dumb. That's like trying to argue that you can play Stepmania with a RB drum kit- Yeah, you can do it, but it'd be dumb as hell for the charts that are available in that game.when you play rockband on the drums, you find out quickly that the 5th button is the pedal (the orange note) GH4 says there is no on screen corrispondent to their pedal, as far as i've heard.

Tokzic is right to poke fun. He is RIGHT in pointing out that RB technically requires greater accuracy.
That, and RB requires a bigger investment to get the full game out of it. Not what I would call "casual" in the slightest... GH's higher than average cost for a game also fits this bill, although to a slightly lesser extent.Comment

gh4 will probably be better as it was the original, and it's timing window is better imo circles>tiny pos rectangles the drums look better too imo

Well I always saw it as an unprofessional game. To me it was slow, tedious, and boring. That it required more precision but did not have hyperspeed didn't help the fact that I'm pretty much blind, even with my contacts. If I was on beat for the solos, I would miss because I can't read the notes without hyperspeed.
Plus Rock Band's drums were garbage.
Even considering Rock Band 2 having hyperspeed, I'm still not the least bit impressed :/
