Re: A Super Smash Brothers on the DS......Could it happen?
Movement: You can no longer choose to walk or run, or vary your speed. If you hit the direction, you can only move at one speed. Shorthopping is gone too, since the DS doesn't have pressure-sensitive buttons (as far as I know).
Grabs: With no Z button, your only grab is L or R+A.
Shielding: Due to lack of pressure-sensitive buttons, you can only have one shield.
Also, how would you implement the stylus? The game's pace is far too fast for it to work.Comment

Re: A Super Smash Brothers on the DS......Could it happen?
I've rarely played Melee, so please clarify for me if I'm confused about differences between the original and Melee.Movement: You can no longer choose to walk or run, or vary your speed. -Hasn't the R button always been the grab button?
-Movement would basically be the same in the previous games: tap/push to walk, double-tap to start running.
-I guess you must get two shields in Melee.
-The stylus might be a good oppurtunity to have some kind of item-throwing engine. I am rather tired of having to jump or move to get my throws just right. When using the stylus, I'm not sure if you can do anything about how far you can throw it from where you're standing, but you can throw at more trajectories than just moving around and then throwing right in front of you or above you (e.g. throwing a mine and running.).
As a matter of fact, leave the stylus behind: I've been able to use my fingers for any purpose that the stylus serves.Comment

How would you throw with the stylus? Would you take your hand of the d-pad or buttons (depending on left/right handed) and grab your stylus which you have laying next to you?Comment

Re: A Super Smash Brothers on the DS......Could it happen?
Read my edit. It basically states that you wouldn't need the stylus and would use a finger or thumb (preferrably the right thumb).Comment

Re: A Super Smash Brothers on the DS......Could it happen?
That has the potential to work out well, but it also has potential to be terrible.
Same thing with the entire concept of a Smash on the DS. But hey, it's Nintendo, if they were to start a project like this they'd probably be able to adapt it to the DS, and still have a fun game.Comment

Re: A Super Smash Brothers on the DS......Could it happen?
well this is how i think the game would be.
A and B used the same way as other SSB
Y to jump X to grab
L for the big shield
and R for the little shield
the stylus would work for final smash, and double tap well is used in many games why not this one?
using the stylus to throw well i'm, not sure of that, you have to take the hand of the pad, remember DS games are made one way or another (that's why i like it)Comment

The R button has been used for both grabbing and the shield.well this is how i think the game would be.

Also, I said that the stylus will most likely be pushed aside if the pad was to be used for combat purposes. The right thumb would most likely be used.Last edited by purebloodtexan; 08-24-2007, 11:04 PM.Comment

Re: A Super Smash Brothers on the DS......Could it happen?
Gladly.
Yes, but in Melee most people tend to use Z to grab, unless you're grabbing out of a shield, which is L or R+A.-Hasn't the R button always been the grab button?
The problem is that in Melee, you have more speeds than walk and run. You have every speed in between, and can switch immediately. With a system like that, you can't switch very quickly. It would make things quite clunky.-Movement would basically be the same in the previous games: tap/push to walk, double-tap to start running.
The shield increases in size if you hold the button down more lightly. It also wears out more slowly, but you get knocked back farther and it takes more damage from attacks. Continuing to hold Z after you complete a grab puts up your lightest shield.-I guess you must get two shields in Melee.
See, but between moving with the d-pad, controlling moves with the four buttons, being able to use the stylus and hit the bottom screen in the quick amount of time required of it would be very difficult. Oh, and Nintendo says not to use your thumb on the screen unless you have a specific attachment, so they won't advocate that.-The stylus might be a good oppurtunity to have some kind of item-throwing engine. I am rather tired of having to jump or move to get my throws just right. Overall, SSB's pace is just too fast to be put onto a handheld without some kind of advanced control, unless the game was severely modified to compensate.Comment

Re: A Super Smash Brothers on the DS......Could it happen?
hey they did it with metroid prime, and with zelda, i think they can do it with super smash XD.
besides almost every nintendo game has an option to change from stylus to D-pad so controls are not an issue on the DS.Comment

Then I guess throwing would still be as complex as the original games = /.Gladly.
