Right, yeah. She was looking for a vessel and all that. And had the ability to compress time.

So, I think it makes sense that after she failed numerous times, she compressed time. Again. And succeeded. And that's why you go through the time compression to fight her.

And it makes sense, because whatever you name your necklace is the name of the final boss. Which is modeled after your ring. Which Rinoa had. Which, if she were a powerful, time compressing witch living in solidarity, would be the one item that would help her keep her humanity, considering.

Sorcerers have a hard time ageing, as dictated be Edea - Cid aged a crapload, Edea didn't.

That would make Rinoa outlive Squall, which could make her very, very bitter. It goes with the huge love thing in the game, too.

The fact that Ultimecia's castle is RIGHT NEXT to the orphanage, where Squall told Rinoa he would wait for her, forever. Okay. Cool. Just a huge coincidence that Ultimecia would just go, "Oh, this building? Why not."

But the Griever thing for me is what does it. The fact that Rinoa never gives Griever back, and that Squall considers it to be the most powerful GF, and then for some reason, Ultimecia has the same GF.

I think it's debatable, sure. Jenova was the whole reason why Cloud and Sephiroth were as powerful as they were. Sephiroth just had the power of the cells straight from birth, but I feel like all these characters experienced all this mental anguish as a result of Jenova's effects on their psychological states. I mean, Cloud, a lowly soldier, was able to toss the great Sephiroth into the Lifestream *after being stabbed*, ffs.

The tricky thing about FF7 is that there is so much merging and separation occurring between the physical and mental aspects of the characters, and things also pass between the carnal/mortal and the supernatural and spiritual. Also, there is little explanation given at the end, which leads much of the analysis up to context clues.

Personally, I think Sephiroth's body is kaput after the incident in the Mako reactor -- he is "dead" but not mentally, only physically -- his body is trapped in the Northern Crater for the entire game. He's able to project himself and control the clones as a result of his exposure to Mako and the mental-linking aspects of the Jenova cells. Yes, Sephiroth is the one doing this, but it's all because he happened to be in the right place at the right time. Sephiroth's actual form is hardly powerful at all -- you basically fight these weird psycho-kineto forms manifested out of Sephiroth's will. This explains the final battle with Sephiroth, who attempts to regain one last iota of control over Cloud mentally, but loses.

In reality, you never truly fight Sephiroth physically IMO, you are battling against the fused byproducts of the Lifestream and Sephiroth's mind and will. The battles with Sephiroth are battles of the mind. An interesting villain, but not the most powerful. Jenova's influence had much to do with everything and basically catalyzed the story and the villains' progressions. Even after Sephiroth is vanquished, Jenova is still not truly defeated.

Well, kefka is my favorite. What the hell are we supposed to rank them by? Difficulty?

If so then like, x-death is the hardest last boss in the ff series hands down. Zeromus, The Undying and the nes bosses are moderately difficult. The rest were really not hard to beat at all. Sephiroth and Kefka would duke it out for easiest boss aside from maybe Jecht. Necron is kind of inbetween because at least he casts spells at an annoyingly slow rate and they're all status effects.

optional bosses...Omega weapon from FF5 is probably the hardest (on the original). Omega in FF12 and Nemesis in FF10 were possibly more difficult due to battle length. Ozma is probably the easiest optional boss. I mean, you can kill him in like 7 hits at level 70 it's not that hard.

i've read this a lot of times before and to add to the "theory" you can find images that compare the face of ultimecia(artemiza in spanish) with the face of rinoa and you'll find that indeed they look alike

Even if Rinoa isn't Ultimecia, there's just a crapload of coincidences that make them seem like they're the same people.

I always loved Kuja, and Sephiroth. Its hard to choose between the two though....

So, assuming that theory is correct Mal, you're saying that the entire game's future is a time loop that begins the moment Squall gives his ring to Rinoa? If so, that's messed up. I wouldn't say that's not true, but I wouldn't say it's necessarily true either. I'm sure the game creators didn't take into account all the hardcore nerds/fanboys who would read into the theory behind the time travel/compression stuff. Which, let's face it, when they made a story involving time manipulation, you KNEW loopholes were bound to surface at somepoint.
