Its like comparing watermelons to a mouse.

Basically they are different games. FFR has the huge community advantage and you dont have to be top 20 in the world to know where you fit into the community because you are ranked on every song. SM is completely customisable and lets people far more accurately challenge each other and themselves.

Community on FFR, but aren't we forgetting Stepmania Online?
Not much of a community compared to FFR. But it still has it's own community.

ffr is a flash engine with a pretty terrible music selection and even worse files. i play pad sm and kb so thats a plus, and the sm community is pretty much better.

I don't know, SM has a pretty big forum community. They are both equally fun, but once again, as it has been said. SM has way better sims, and it's so much more fun working with, creating your own graphics, making you own simfiles, no matter how retarted they are. SM > FFR for skill
FFR > SM for thinking your amazing till you play certain people on SM. Then you're like, wtfff I suck balls.

I enjoy SM more. Way better than FFR IMO, and im also getting really good at SM that i just suck at FFR Lol.
