FFR used to be ran a bit differently as far as administration was concerned. The site had a money aspect to it, as well as a few other things, and there was a bit of a falling out with the staff at the time. If someone wants to explain in more detail they can, but that's the gist of it. It left a bitter taste in the mouths of a chunk of the staff at the time, and they decided to start their own project.

Thirdstyle was created because of FFR's downtime. Had nothing to do with FFR being run with a money aspect. FFR made a return just as TS was launching. There were talks about possibly putting TS and FFR together at the time but Maldon for whatever reason got annoyed about something and pulled the plug on TS totally. Don't remember every detail now since it was a few years ago. From there Tass and the rest of the admins continued on with TS as a seperate project from FFR. Maybe Tass continued on with it because of the money aspect, but I'm not going to put words in people's mouths. The only thing I can say for sure was that it stemmed from FFR's downtime. It's in the Tass forums somewhere if you feel like digging lol.

I tried TS a while back, it just seemed like a reskinned legacy engine with even less features to me. Primitive settings, etc. I guess someone made up a quick proof of concept for an FFR replacement and then instantly abandoned it?

I dismissed it mainly because it lacks a video sync option (the audio sync setting also barely works), and no multiplayer which is the only reason I came to FFR in the first place :P

Sooooo I was going to make a new thread for thirdstyle but I am too lazy and need to go to bed anyway, but this site keeps looking better and better.
The game engine is better (in terms of coding, haxe vs. full flash, how smooth it runs).
Longer playfield (can screencut if you don't like)
Potential use of gimmicks and holds
ZERO community. Absolutely none. Most people refuse to go to the website specifically for this reason. HOW ABOUT WE ALL GO PLAY THIRDSTYLE???

Updates to come:
Isk is working on a native engine that will:
have cmod (as opposed to the amod currently)
have replay capabilities
be an .exe and not rely on browser or standalone flash player
run at 180fps steadily
this is not a promise, this is done, and not released to the public yet. I have tested it, because the dev at ThirdStyle keeps people updated on what he's doing and allows and encourages extensive testing. The native engine is amazing.

Please make TS a thing again. It's an incredible game and it's in the process of getting a hell of a lot better. Which is saying something when you think how much better than FFR it already is. I mean no disrespect to anyone here staff or community, I just want to re-raise awareness of a game which I deem to be superior in performance, and severely lacking in population.

they dont have the 1712 songs ffr has, and I've come to like them. I'll stay here thanks. I really dont like TS's song selection thus far.

their charting policy and content generation is pretty bad.

like UF says, i like alot of the ffr songs and files already.

if you think of batch issues on ffr, it's almost no difference in community, and batch judging for ts is pretty much the same lol

also, the fact that you need to step 4 difficulties for a chart literally kills my drive for stepping (i'm guessing for a lot of other people too) and it also leads to some charts being arbitrarily difficulty spiked, and also leads to marathon songs being the most arduous thing in the rhythm game world, having to play it 3 times if you care about clearing up your ranks
