    Re: Possible FFR Rebirth Project?

Well seeing Multi-Language support on the site will be wonderful since I have friends that wants to play this game, but are intimidated to go in the forums since its only in English.

Another thing I want to point out as said before is that people need to grow up in terms of treating other people. The first time I came on the forums I was picked on by some Elitists on the site and at one point wanted to leave. I didn't leave because of the tournaments (I'm a competitive guy) and thats it.

About a good 60% if time on the forums I would browse around and see nothing but arguments and I'm tired of seeing it happen.

I also seen some Mods not doing anything when I was being attacked some time ago. If your not going to help out others and watch like you supposed to then why are you in power in the first place?

I really don't want this site to go down, but if this keeps happening it will.

(Without reading previous posts other than the op)

We need to open up to people that speak different languages, spanish, japanese, etc.
Dossar was right about SMO being very welcoming, and the actual server is pretty active every day. You may look at it as a downside that most of the players speak only Spanish, or only Japanese, but the point is there are a LOT of spanish/japanese players that are active. SMO has forums and moderators for each language, it's very well organized. Saying that we are an English-only website rejects a very large player base that we could be recruiting.

I don't know how many times I've said these exact things. There's nothing wrong with
        1. having multiple languages, if something is offensive to someone that can speak the language they can report it, it's not that big of a deal. Plus there's always good old google where you can typically figure out what things mean. It would draw in more people that don't live in the US. This game may have been made in the US but it's played all over the world.

        2. The people picking on new people junk, I don't know how many times I've seen new people come into the community and be chased right back out again. I'm so sick of people's "I'm better than you" attitudes. Everyone wants to complain and claim they can do a better job than others rather than doing something constructive. Guess what guys complaining isn't getting any of us anywhere. It's getting to the point where veteran users are leaving the site because they just can't take it anymore and if the vet users feel like that I can only imagine how a new user would feel walking in for the 1st time. Hell I remember when I got into the forums it was 09 and I was intimidated as hell. I probably wouldn't have stayed if Frankie wasn't my roommate.

        3. On the mod aspect of your post though, I don't know if you're just referring to when you 1st signed up or now. There weren't too many active mods for a little bit when the site came back up but now there are a few new ones. I just got on the mod staff a few months ago. I'm usually deleting any posts that can cause problems but doing so has been causing problems with other users that claim the posts were deleted for no reason. So it's pretty much a no win situation. We can't prevent all arguments from happening being the diverse group of people we have on the site, but I know the current mods try to stay on top of things that start getting out of hand.

This thread is nice and all but really what needs to happen is people just need to chill out for a little while. The Devs are working on a bunch of stuff for the site all the time, but it's not going to happen over night. The more and more people keep harassing about new stuff the more pressure there is on the Devs that are already hard at work. Everyone needs to remember something, everyone on staff here is working for free, which in turn means they have full time jobs or school they attend as well. you can't expect them to pour every hour of every day into stuff for the site. So the best thing the community can do is just kick back, relax, give the Devs some time to work and maybe try to be a little more friendly to one another again. I'd really like to see more new users getting active here.

            Re: Possible FFR Rebirth Project?

@The tourney suggestion on the home page: Maybe put like the current tournies on FFR on the side left before the profiles?

Also I feel as if the front page is stretched WAY to much from those spare news posts to deal with that I suggest making that less and also making it so that instead of having to skim through ALL the news posts to find one (for those of us who like to read up on the past ect) maybe make like a separate page with a link to each news post?

I know I'm probably the only guy on the site who finds tier points absolutely ****ing worthless, but maybe we should have two tier point bars and lists open to the public and add in one for the easier songs cause I know it's coded and has a page but how the **** do newer players access it? Also redo the list(s) to incorporate more songs but be worth less points ect?

My brother suggested making the site have customizable CSS for the main page IE: making the banner color able to be changed or etc. Almost like Myspace, just... Minus the fail...

With my suggestion's i'll make a picture t6o show you what i mean ect ect ect

Not taking sides, but posting a quote from the forum admin, perhaps this will clear up a few things.

1/ once we establish a foreign language subforum how do we enforce the use of only languages with a fluent moderator? Do we ban people who speak in a language besides one we authorize? It's the same objection you all just made to 'only english.' A spanish speaker says 'only english' is racist and unfair, but a japanese speaker is going to say the same thing about 'only english and spanish' and a german speaker is going to say the same thing about 'only english, spanish and japanese'

At a certain point we have to say "every language, but if you happen to pick one we don't speak we can just ban you even if it turns out you're talking about snuggly puppies" or we say "Only english" It's staying 'Only English' as far as I'm concened. If we're going to offend people we might as well offend them equally.

2/ The forums already have a surprisingly small amount of activity for the active population. Adding in a foreign language section makes the forums less active overall not more, because every thread made in a foreign language excludes every user on the site who doesn't speak that language. English VG and Media, Spanish VG and Media, and Korean VG and Media, we'll have three dead forums instead of one slow-moving one. The general assumption, true so far in at least 99.99% of cases is that if you're on the site at all, you have at least functional english skills. You're free to speak any language you like in private messages, and maintaining a list of users who speak various languages somewhere as a "So you can maybe talk to them if you're jonesing for another language" is fine, but again, don't see it on the forums.

Bring back the simfile database... XD

EDIT: In all seriousness, if we really wanna help FFR out (I don't) we gotta help out the whole music game community in general. Let's face it, even RB and GH have gone 6 ft under. Bringing FFR back up would be tough and I really don't see it happening, HOWEVER a good first step would be affiliating with other popular (or use to be) rythm game sites like stepmania.

Foreign languages isn't impossible (just read the previous posts about how it's worked on other sites like SMO) and definitely can bring in a larger player base

This thread basically also discussed the issue:

I agree with the Facebook thing, it's a good, free way to advertise the site as a start. If you guys need people to run the FB page, I'm on FB/FFR every single day unless I don't have a connection to the internet. So it's not like I couldn't help run that. Really the only way that FFR will continue to grow/not shrink is if we reach out to new people and have interesting things to hook them with (which is basically what the Dev team is working on). I hope to get into programming and the like so maybe at some point I can be more help than before but we will see. I'm always willing to help people just need to ask me to help with things =]

What I'm really concerned about is how the site appears to other people that I'd show FFR to. If some shit like Cosplay happened again, boy would that be a nice one to explain....

Last thing I'd want is to show the site and then find a ton of trolling garbage that they'd see and then they're like "lol site is shit why do you even go here" or "WTF THIS IS A PORN SITE"
