    A Modest Proposal

Right, so getting higher than possible scores from secret/glitched arrows is a large topic of debate and such. I think I may know of a possible solution.

Well, if someone is able to get above normal from secret arrows, they probably had to have AAA'd the song in the first place. Therefore, if they hit a secret arrow and went above the maximum score, without secret arrows, they would have the max.

Following this logic, I think a small coding addition should be made. First off, I don't know much about coding, and even less about flash actionscript. However, I think this is universally doable.

First, the highest possible score for each level needs to be calculated, which can easily be done. Anyway, after you have that, store it to some variable. When the person completes the song, if their score > the calculated maximum, make their score become the max. Therefore, impossible scores become AAA's.

While the whole thing could be completely fixed by getting rid of secret arrows, I'm sure many people have asked about that (I'm too lazy to look though), so I offer this as a temporary fix.

    What are your thoughts?

the problem is that if you actually look at screenshots of people scoring over the maximum are NOT AAA's. FFR is scoring system is so dependant on combos that a AAA'd 123 combo has a much lower score then a 124 combo with several goods/averages. try it out sometime. AAA mario except with 1 miss in the middle, and then AAA it again with 1 miss at the beggining and you'll see an enourmous difference in your score.

its not a simple perfect = x points, good = y points ,etc etc. if you look a bit you can easily find the exact equation, but your MAX combo has by far the largest impact on your score

No, that's DDR. The FFR scoring doesn't work like that.

just so ya know, for a perfect, during the game, you get 50 points. You get 500 points at the total score part. If your combo is full, you get 1000 per arrow. If you get a perfect on every arrow, that's 1550 * the number of arrows. Therefore, number of arrows * 1550 = the maximum possible score. There's a thing in the faq about this.

Do you realize how much you contradict yourself here? In my first quote, without giving any specifics, i basically said that one large, lets say for example, 200 combo will net you a lot more points (in FFR's case 200000) compared to a 2 smaller 100 combos which will net a lot less (1/2 as much in FFR's case). In terms of total score, in the first case you have something close to 99% of the maximum possible score. In the second case you have something ~2/3 the maximum score. You still flat out said that that wasn't the case.

Yet in response to the 2nd quote you gave the exact equations (and the link to the FAQ) saying that combos have the largest impact on your score, and getting one miss in the middle will absolutely destroy it.

Anyway, current DDR is NOT like FFR in that a miss in the middle won't devastate your score, not the other way around as you implied.

At any rate, something of this nature has already been suggested many times before, a little backtracking and you'll find some topics.

The problem is you'd be giving hackers a field day....they hack their scores into the "simply absurd" range and the game edits it down to a simple AAA, and it wouldn't be obvious to figure out.

You could fairly easy make a table in the database, and send a record of scores that were over the max possible, so it would keep a log, and Synth could just check the log every once in a while. Should be a fairly easy script.

Trebek you can play a song and get a PERFECT as the secret arrow and still pass the AAA mark if you get 2goods or less.

It would be fairly easy to make a script to parse the database every night or so and delete/change all of the scores over AAAs. Still, Synth's busy.

The only problem is that it would lag like crazy...

Now what they should have is all the maximum scores calculated before hand and hard coded into the ffr flash file. It would involve no data base checking so no lag what so ever. The swf file would not increase in size because it is such a small addition...

But synth has some plan as to this. It is just a question of when he will implement it into ffr...
