I think that color font thing for MP isn't a bad idea... or maybe being able to customize your own profile more with skins like they have on myspace and xanga. Even though people say it's like "FFRspace," the profiles, I think, really did make more people active on the site, because it's not only FFR, it's socializing with others.

Sorry, I made it sound like we shouldn't impliment the ideas purely for the reason that I didn't like them. That's not what I was trying to get across..

I'd be doing what tass mentioned, signing up purely to help out the site. I don't necessarially care what gets out there, I'll still sign up.

I have an idea to impliment this "premium-only song section" that everyone is mentioning, while not aggrivating anyone too much. How about there's a section where Premium members can have their stepfiles displayed (after review by one of the admins, of course), and as long as it's synced and not just random arrows to a random song, it gets added to the section. Perhaps they get displayed for 1-4 weeks, depending on how much feedback it gets.

In this way, songs BY premium members get displayed in the actual game, and only premium members can play them. Maybe the premium members can even vote if they liked the file or not, and add comments about it, viewable by the admins. In this way it's almost like a seperate judging system for SOTW submissions.

..of course, premium members can still submit songs for the SOTW without being added to the game before, if they wish.

I kind of feel like this might be a little high. I think that if you make the price more than $30 a year it will draw away A LOT of people. FFR does have a crowd of loyal regs; but we can't rely on just them to support this. We need everyone from newbs who just started today, to members who have been here since day 1 to want to join.

If you pay $3 a month, it would be $36. That's not a lot at all.

Here's just a random idea I thought of:

Since everyone loves SotW so much, how about for every <insert $ donated> we reach, a new song is added to the game? Gives people a goal, and rewards them when reached.

I think it'd be best if the whole theme of this is "donate and you get these things" rather than "pay money for a premium account"...just let people know that FFR needs the money, and that it's not really profit-based. Same thing, just different tone.

Hmm...

I typed up a long ass post but it seems to have gotten lost on the way to being submitted.

Main points:

A special forum wouldn't really work, unless the forum was for specifically premium features, such as upcoming songs or things of that nature. A Gbin-esque forum would either draw posters away from Gbin and make Gbin less read-worthy, or it would have no enough Gbin regulars posting there to be worth reading.

Infinite credits isn't really a good idea. I just figured that would be the easiest way to open up all of the songs. The idea of paying a certain amount for more credits is a good one as well.

And a few ideas I had for forum access:

• Memberlist re-enabled for premium members
• No limit for search returns for premium members

I think there was more, but I don't feel like totally retyping my long ass post just for a few more supporting details. If I think of anything important I forgot, I won't hesitate to post it.

ps ok just remembered something. I don't think custom titles are a good idea. Way too many custom titles removes the coolness of it. I think a simple "Premium Member" under the normal title or a gold star or something would be best.

Sorry Afro, the forum went a little haywire earlier. First the server was bugging out because we are breaking mbit/s records on the server tonight and then the database came unsync'd under the pressure of it all. I had to shut it all down, rebuild stuff and then about 30-40 minutes later had it all back up.

It is precisely things like this that I no longer want to have problems with. Every time we optimize something on the server, new traffic just sucks it up. We feel like we are able to expand at a rate that only our server limits allow. More revenue = better servers, less time fixing things and more time to develop or higher people to develop.

Lets all get back on track with these ideas.

What're we going to do with the different currencies? Paypal only in USD? I don't know if this is any different in the US, but I'd way rather pay 5$ than 3$. Why? Because we don't have the 1$ bill. we've the loonie, the twoonie, then the 5$ bill. Anyways, I think 5$ a month would be good because it would make 30$ a year sound way more appealing, thus giving you more people wanting that. I'm pretty sure someone is more likely to pay 30$ than a month subscription over and over. The Top Donators list would be a great idea too. Beat the tenth best doner and get your name up there, or go all out and become the first and get your name really standing out.

By the way, having the most available options for giving money for donation or for subscription is the best way to get more money that way. Having money orders available (consealed cash and/or cheque), online email money transfers, direct secure credit card uses, etc.
