No, it's from the oni mode of ...uh like Extreme or something, I don't remember. It's an actual DDR thing. Stop dissing SM.
Rework FFR scoring to be based on perfects and not combo

Marvelous should NOT be added because you would have to have an extremely awesome computer to get high marvelouses on a song and a ton of the songs on FFR are already offbeat so marvelous would just dig the grave of being offbeat
Besides it's already significantly harder to AAA a song on FFR than it is on SMComment

I think the most important thing right now is to get rid of the combo system. A good score should of course not depend on your combo but how many perfects or misses you get. I hate the current scoring system so much which is why I don't play FFR. I think the score system of SM would suffice for FFR.The master of the night has you.Comment

i supose you're right. the timing in general on ffr is odd...if you hit the arrow slightly before you should (perfect/great timing) you'll hit a perfect. If you wait (marvelous timing) you get a good half the time. also...the difference between a average and a good is too small. I've attempted to get all averages once, and you cannot. Its too quick to register the miss, and you just get half averages and half goods if you don't get the miss.Originally posted by Arch0wlMarvelous should NOT be added because you would have to have an extremely awesome computer to get high marvelouses on a song and a ton of the songs on FFR are already offbeat so marvelous would just dig the grave of being offbeat

though we could still use something close to my system suggested, because the combo thing blows.

Reach's system is nifty. However, the actual amount of points shouldn't be raised. Your score determines how many credits you get. If the scoring system was changed, the credit system would have to be changed as well. I believe that you get one credit for every 50k points obtained. People can get 1 mil+ points on a song...100+ credits a song is ridiculous. Yay for changing the system, but leave points the same.GB CHALLENGE IS HOMOSEXUAL

This is because the game has a timing system that only works on the front of the beat, but really quickly after the arrow passes the game declares it a miss.Originally posted by ReachI've attempted to get all averages once, and you cannot. so you have
My idea for scoring:Code:timing ranges: < less than perfect >(arrow)<miss>
Add "great" as a timing indicator and fix the timing.
Perfects * 1000
Greats * 500
Goods * 250
Avg * 0
Miss * -500
Boo * -250
This recreates scoring similar to Perfect Attack in tournaments, but slightly modified. However I do think there should be a Combo Bonus. Here's how it works:
(Highest Combo + Second Highest Combo) * 500
Add that to the score.
Okay, why Highest + Second Highest? This way if you miss one beat in the middle of a song, it doesn't slaughter your score, because you have 2 half combos instead of one full combo. However if you miss lots of beats throughout the song, you don't get a very good combo bonus. Basically, it encourages you to full-combo the song, but it's willing to forgive you for a minor slip-up. The high score board will still be all people who FC the song, however, it doesn't penalize you (and give you fewer credits) for "not-quite" FC'ing the song.Comment

How about you just add all your combos together (which in essence means, all arrows hit), yet scale them to the proportions they're in now? How about we divide this all by 10 as well since theres no sense in making these bigger.
It would turn out to be:
Perfect = 150
Good = 75
Average = 15
Miss & Boo (modified) = -50
No score bonus.
What I did is add 1000 to perfect, and the other "combo" bonuses I added to the original scoring number were scaled. I also increased the miss penalty and made it even with boos. Boos now count for enough to well subtract from a score taking the possibility of a good score with them away.
Also, if it's called average, why doesn't the majority of the arrows people hit averages? That means everyone is above average.
Change good to great and average to good and we'll call it good.

Chardish:
You know the "(Highest Combo + Second Highest Combo) * 500 " you talked about? Instead, your second highest combo should not give as much. If you make one miss, that is still a miss. Instead of getting a perfect combo multiplier, you get it minus one.
Let us say that song "x" has 600 arrows. If you miss one and add your two highest combos together (your only combos), you get a combo of 599. If you wanted to make those misses a real penalty, you do this:
+ (Highest Combo)
+ (Second Highest Combo [divided by 2])
+ (Third Highest Combo [divided by 3])
Total * The Multiplier
You keep going down for at least the top five combos so that each miss incurs a bigger division of the combo, but it STILL adds on points.
Most people feel that combos need to be worth less, so they should have a multiplier higher than an average, but lower than a good, like 200 or 250
Averages should be worth SOMETHING though
By this combo method, lets say you make two misses so that you have 3 combos total. They are:
300, 200, 98
(2 misses on song "x")
Then it is broken down.
+(300)
+(200/2)
+(98/3)
=432
(Out of 600)
Instead of only getting a 300, your misses bring you up to a 432, but don't get a huge extra bonus like a 500.
It is mathimatically the most fair. Each miss incurs a larger penalty on the bonus. You still get more bonus though, but in smaller portions, making misses STILL something not to get, but it pads the combo.
This needs to be done up to at least the first 5 combos for it to be fair, but it is the most mathematically fair way!Comment

I'm sorry, but I had my idea really going in my head.
Those CAPS words are words of high emphasis.
It IS a good idea though. That is why I wrote it out so stylized. I spent a lot of time talking to my calculus teacher about it and this was the most simplistic math with the best results.Comment

Cenright, I like your idea. However, it seems like in the example you gave, 432 combo points/600 arrows is pretty poor for only having missed 2. In combo points, that's the equivalent of getting a 432 combo and then missing the rest and failing the song.
The stories I seem to hear the most say "I missed one arrow and it murdered my combo and I got a crappy score!" That's why I made my system - it still emphasizes the importance of the combo yet is more forgiving than the current system in that it gives you a "grace" miss.Comment

I don't know; I've always favored EX scoring.
