I think it's time that this gets revived again, because this is a legitimate way to revamp the difficulty system and it's basically been ignored.

10 ("VC") = current low to mid-high VC
11 ("FEO") = high/technical VC and low FMO
12 ("FMO") = mid-high FMO and very low FGO
13 ("FGO") = mid-high FGO
14 ("FSO") = current FSO
15 (no name) = vrofl :3

Who was doing which difficulty? I remember people being assigned to do certain difficulties. I also think that like the new tier point system thread, that the difficulties should be based off a certain process (like the links posted above) as well as community input.

I'm all for having a more broad spectrum of difficulties for the higher challenge songs - just make sure that it's well planned out and that we don't end up doing what we do now, which is bicker over ratings because they're "borderline" (bound to happen, but hopefully not as much...). Oh, and do you think a difficulty for vROFL is necessary? I'd just not put it in a difficulty lol.

No the DF 1-50 scale is a lot better than a 1-15 scale.

Also I never understood why it's "For Stepman Only" it just sounds silly as shit. Can we at least change that?

I remember velo telling me it's actually a pain in the butt to add more difficulties. I've been tryin to talk with him about the ratings.

Haha, 15 is basically the "too dense to do properly" difficulty

But don't try putting my Brutality scale into this because the files on my engine are much different than the scale here.

Also Kayla, it really isn't that hard to add - my engine has a 15 difficulty point scale (13 being brutal, 14 being very brutal, and 15 being insane), unless you're talking about other things that I'm not thinking of right now

i feel like expanding the difficulty spectrum can only create -more- song-by-song assignment drama since it opens the door for just about every file ingame to be brushing up against some border or another >___>

p.s. I wanna help with this shit, I generally have a good idea of where files should go

We could rate the songs manually and then use a separate system to rate them in-game. A high % of congruency between both manual ratings and systematic ratings would mean the system's doing its job.

Except that with an actual process and community input (like what was done in the new tier point system thread and it was VERY successful), there won't be difficulties based on a shit ton of bickering and drama. Even stavie who is considered a very non-objective difficulty rater was able to agree with the tier point requirements that had input from the community.

And if I recall correctly, remedy and yo man im awesome were also doing difficulties in this scale, but I could be wrong.

It's not even that the difficulty issue has been getting ignored. I doubt 15 difficulties will solve the problem. I was asking Velo about the chance of an automated system for difficulty ratings sorta like TS has to kinda eliminate the "subjectivemanias" and it would go off scoring ability. He said if someone wrote him a nice formula he'd consider it.
