I haven't seen the 'currently using FFR' number higher than 500 since FFR's revival. And ok, sure, why not, let's assume they're all forum-goers since the number's piss small anyways.

My point is: no one plays this damn game anymore

The majority of people that still play and post are those that broke the 'pro' barrier before FFR shut down. Players that aren't 'pro' refuse to post because 'non-pros' are the minority at the moment. And I swear to God, as soon as that Amateur FFR Scores thread was made, I saw a bunch of players posting there that I've never even seen in the FFR Scores thread. Basically, if we're tired of seeing just the same people posting over and over (and I know a ton of you guys are), we need to do more shit like the Amateur Scores thread to appeal to lesser skilled players.

Otherwise everyone's just gonna stop playing.

    herp
Im not a pro, I dont have 1000+ forum posts. Im just loyal to ffr, I love everything about it and all those people who dont go here any more dont belong here in the first place, they obviously dont care.

Some idears for score thread division:
      - Amateur, Pro (current)
      - Beginner, Amateur, Pro
      - Pre-[heavy], Pre-[oni], Post-[oni]
      - No tier, Tier 4, Tier 3, Tier 2, Tier 1, Tier 0
      - 0~99 AAAs, 100~399 AAAs, 400~599 AAAs, 600~all AAAs

Which I don't blame people for feeling that way it's hard to feel good about posting a lower level AAA when you've got ppl posting FGO AAAs around you.

I still think that having like tiers of threads to post scores in could be a really good thing for encouragement and it makes it easier for people to see others of their own skill level and challenge them.
Thing is, people thinking that way is just kind of lol. Obviously they are better then you, you can clearly see that, but they worked to get to where they are and there is no reason why you are bashing them on them posting scores they feel is good for their skill level. If you discourage yourself by looking at someone better and thinking you are not good enough, you are honestly going to get yourself nowhere. The purpose of the FFR scores thread is to post scores you feel are good. Who cares what others think. The only people that would bash lower level skilled scores are snotty good players which there really isnt any around. Everyone that is basically in the FFR scores thread atm is over in that amateurs scores thread commenting and posting, so really seeing that doesnt make sense why all of this can just come together again in the original FFR scores thread.

I'm not opposed to making a framework where lower-tiered players could get recognized, but I suspect that you're going to start getting douchebags who are posting scores that really don't belong. Things need a hard-set cutoff.

Story time !_! (walloftextmanias alert - I'll try making it as short as possible):

Back when I played stepmania in 2008 and posted in the SM scores thread, it was really active and everyone was noticed. Just that my speed wasn't really up to par with some players at the time, I was a "vibrating ******" LOL!

Fortunately, 2008 was the vibrating age - guys like henkz and neon came in, and they were my rivals. Others on sites like musikkspill encouraged me to get my JHM AAA. I was able to find guys to compare with and find as rivals for vibrating.

That leads to my earlier post. Stepmania is a game that doesn't automatically place your rank. What's shattering about FFR to a newer player is when you finally get an FC on a VC file and then your rank is 700. SM scores was more of a hangout thread - chit chatting went on there too. FFR scores is just, well, completely competitive now lol. The Amateur FFR scores thread allows the newer players to actually take pride in their accomplishments - rather than being overlooked and having a score that's rank 700, they can see others that have something around rank 600 and think "oh hey, a potential rival!" and the score actually has MEANING. It allows newer players to gather and compare and actually motivate each other rather than fall into a maelstrom of FGO scores in the FFR scores thread.

If anything, I see the amateur thread more as a hangout thread rather than just posting scores. But that's just me I guess.

Re: Multiple FFR Scores Threads By Skill Levels?

Personally I think it should be the following division:

                Difficulties 1-4 = "Amateur" scores
                Difficulties 5-8 = "Medium-level" scores
                Difficulties 9-10 = "Advanced" scores
                Difficulties 11+ = "Elite" scores

People in each tier wouldn't be "discouraged" by someone who AAA's something at the top of that tier.

Definitely have to agree with this. Also, when it comes down to it, there's really no point in arguing about this issue. If you like the idea great, if you don't well there's nothing you can do about it for those who agree. The only 'real way' to end something like this is if a bunch of staff members disagree with the idea and decides to shut it down and banning everyone who puts it back up. It's just how things are so live with it people.

Although I understand, I disagree with anything other than "FFR scores" thread. That's where scores for FFR have always been posted and it is the biggest thread in the entire site. Do we want that history to get divided in the future? I don't think we need multiple threads for "FFR scores" because we never have needed it before and it's worked well for over 4 years. We need to encourage people to post in the "FFR scores" thread rather than telling them "you can't post here, post in the amateur thread". With the amateur thread it is now weird for an amateur score to go in the "FFR scores" thread. I don't want that barrier to exist. None the less 5 of those barriers existing.

And even if it is true that less skilled players are intimidated in that thread, it doesn't stop them from playing. The "FFR scores" thread isn't that big of a deal to most players. It's just a small bragging thing. It's not like it's on the main page of the site.

No more than 2 threads for sure. I understand 2. I'd still prefer just 1.

Just another thing I should add: Splitting up the amateur scores thread into divisions will completely lower activity IMO. They might eventually become desolate because like OWA said, there aren't a whole lot of new players right now - most of the current players are older ones. If you split the already low population of the amateur scores thread, some tiers will be absurdly inactive compared to others.

One thread for amateur scores is fine - anyone that's in it can comment on others' scores too.
