    Looks cleaner this way.

By the way. I read through the whole thing and think I kinda mastered most of what you say so I downloaded those hard pack for Stepmania... I've always had a little trouble with Stepmania, especially with holds/mines etc... Everything not FFR since I started playing FFR way before Stepmania.

Do you have any advice if I want to get better at FFR? I don't think I mind learning to be good with holds and such so should I start with easier Stepmania songs?

It really depends on where your skill level is. The hard songs packs should be fine as long as you start only playing the heavy difficulty (if it has standard do that). It will not only help your PA, but greatly improve your speed, regardless of how well you do on the song. Also, good songs to start with are One More Lovely on Heavy, 37 Dicks challenge, and Hamsin Heavy

Those are rather easy, but try a few songs

EDIT: Play with holds and speed changes, it will make FFR seem easier overall. Holds give you better hand control, because you have to manipulate your fingers around one that's holding a note. For holds like this, work on Cinderella Cage

NO! Playing with speed changes (xmods) will not help at all, ESPECIALLY since they are not on FFR. FFR's engine uses cmods, and are in no way involved.

          Freezes I don't mind though.

I also found that playing at a higher cmod on sm made ffr easier to read.

I don't know, I generally play on C600, but speed changes have made my reaction timing much better, but that might just be me

Re: The step by step guide to becoming an FFR master!!!

I think I'm starting to get better especially with speed, not sure though. I'm doing stuff I didn't know I was able to. I'm playing at C600 too, and that's mainly what blocked me from being good at stepmania before... I thought that C400 or C600 were actually the same thing as x2,3,4 but faster... x4 being impossible for me I never tried "faster" well I actually chose it by mistake and realized what it was really :\ Should have figured that way before, I feel dumb now.

So yeah, I don't know if I'm good but I managed to FC Gaussian Blur (AA) from the hard pack. I don't really know, is that good or that song is actually easy? Thanks anyway! I think it'll help me getting better.

i hate how the advice is always, if you are as good as kmay, or better, go play SM. It takes my computer 10 minutes to load SM. I can't stand it. Is there any way to increase my skill on FFR without SM and whoring?

Oh wow... I played Stepmania for a while and after going back to FFR I think I'm getting way better that I have in the past months... I tought 1.50 for FFR was fast but now I think 1.75 is pretty normal (couldn't play it before). Also, I tried random guru song and found it easy not to miss notes while I was playing with no sound and trying to avoid noise from keyboard (people sleeping around).

Oh wow, seriously, thanks for the advice, I wouldn't have figured the speedmod for Stepmania and the hard pack really helps...

Bolth > C600 is a speed in stepmania which (as far as I understood) doesn't change with different bpm, I also think it removes freezes and you don't see any bpm changes in the speed of notes while you play.

Kmay > Now I think Stepmania is the way to go... On FFR, looking at your rank you must find fgo not that hard... Well, there's no way to get harder songs on FFR so you definitely have to look somewhere else to play harder songs... If you really can't play SM, you could try simfiles on here! (Resonance?)

Glad it helped. I thought that a more in depth, well written guide would help some people (I got better because I found a similar guide on an SM forum, so I wrote an FFR version of it)

ALL C-mods dont show BPM changes (Cmod = Constant Mod) Its the point of a C-mod. They dont effect the freezes any way. I really dont know how you managed to even think that.

Computer specs are a big factor in your PA on FFR imo. Some people get a crazy nice FPS. Lag sucks. But yeah, cool guide
