Index has a distinct advantage over 1-finger. Index must be cheating.

1-finger has a distinct advantage over elbow-only. 1-finger must be cheating.

Jokes aside, the reason double-setup is typically not allowed is because one can hit one key with two fingers. Personally, I've never truly seen the logic behind banning it, especially in FFR where by default there are 8 keys you can use, but that's the rule, so yeah.

1 set of inputs vs 2. there was a whole discussion about trilling on 1 key with 2 fingers, which can get a higher jack rate. and that was ruled ok, since it's still 1 input. you can do a ****ing riverdance on the keys if you want, as long as it's only on 1 set of inputs.

end of story. it's nothing beyond that. 1 set of inputs vs 2.

You could play spread on DDR. Just use your arms.

            Problem solved.

IIRC, Rubix used double when he passed Vrofl. Therefore it must fair. [/logical fallacy]

Oh? Double setup is not allowed? Interesting ^_^

I have a question though..... what entails double setup? Is it pressing two keys to hit the same arrow at the same time, or simply having to keys that can hit the same arrow and using them both at some point?

This seems sort of silly because nobody would know you used double setup XD Unless you have an insane amount of boos in one location, maybe.

Well technically I have double setup. I have my spread keys set, but my arrow keys could still work as well. Of course it doesn't matter so long as you don't abuse it.

                      spread = 1 finger for 1 key
double set up = 1 finger hitting 2 notes

The latter. For example, a player uses <V^>, but ALSO uses ZXCV correspondingly. This would allow the player to hit left with <- and Z, making for higher speeds possible.

Through this method, Crowdpleaser and AIM suddenly aren't so tough anymore.

Even the world's best players have a jacking limit - if someone starts jacking 1/32 notes or higher without difficulty, chances are, they're using double setup.

My opinion on this matter - I don't really care.

I'm pretty sure this post obliterated the competition.

Yeah, it really applies only to framer-ridden files in which the most practical way to combo (aside from having the appropriate speed and control) would be to register key inputs as rapidly as possible. Other than that, double setup is perfectly legit, but the term more commonly implies the method for "cheating" on jack sections like the CP trill and Runny jack, -not- what Goldenwind described in the OP.

Hmm, that's true, good point I didn't think about using it to beat the faster jacks. Still, nobody would know. Unless, of course, they asked for a video on that specific song XD

Re: If double-setup isn't allowed, why is spread?

The simple answer is as has been noted before: The game is "supposed" to function with a maximum of 4 keys mapping onto 4 seperate inputs. You can elect to set those 4 inputs to any 4 buttons you want, and you can elect to hit those buttons with any combination of fingers or other bodyparts, but the one proviso is "No more than 1 set of 4 inputs allowed"

This is why double setup isn't allowed, and spread/index/whatever is.

Now since smartdude requested it, I'll toss in my usual spiel about the fact that the only standard to gauge scores by is the one that uses "A maximum of 4 buttons mapping onto 4 inputs" Which style you choose to use within that guideline is entirely your own choice, and picking one that is "harder" doesn't make your mediocre score suddenly good or worthy of extra admiration.

I mean, handicapping yourself has a long tradition of impressing people. (See all the ridiculous video game challenges that exist especially with regards to FF games) but FFR's scoring system makes no distinction between what fingers you use to hit buttons, so the quality of scores is based solely on the quantitative numbers you generate, not the qualitative way you generated them.

About the only way a crappy score is still going to impress people is if you -severely- handicapped yourself as a joke. If you pass an FGO with one finger, or you play, say, 1, v, p, numpad6 spread or something.

"I play a harder style" isn't grounds for bragging about a score that wouldn't be bragging if you played the style the song was designed for.
