Eh, it's my perspective that you can get good with enough practice no matter the style, although I think the general consensus among experts is that the 4-finger style is best. If I'm not mistaken, I believe Tibs plays with just one finger, and there might have been at least one example of someone who posted a score obtained with his penis.

"Good" is relative.

AAA'ing EHHS or Silence with anything besides spread is essentially impossible.

You can be good for your style, sure...but overall, I don't really think you can get "good" with one finger the way you can with spread.

The only way I'd say four fingers is unfair is if each finger came from a different person. That's just creepy if you think about it.

Nah. It'd just be the KB version of party mode (playing with more than one person on a single pad).

that's actually fun, if you've tried it. I did that in class the other day, me and some people were just messing around on stepmania that i downloaded on my flash drive and we'd each hold one key. They were bad though, our highest combo ended up to be in the lower 90s, we hit 101 one time though. ha, but 3 finger - one hand is for me. i'm learning the spread though, so i can be more accurate on Excited Hyper Speed Star and other things like that.

I used to play one handed, but switched to spread because I couldn't do any of the harder songs. But for fun, I've FC'd most of the easier songs using a different style- pointer and middle finger of one hand <_<

When I first started playing, I was constantly getting screamed at by all these players because I used 4 fingers. I'm not sure if they played 1 hand or 2 fingers, and they tried to get me to play their way, but I never ended up playing 2 fingers or 1 hand. I didn't care if people thought 4 fingers was cheating either. That had to of gone on for months on end.

Index players tend to be more accurate than spread players initially. After practice, they become the same. (except spread players can do harder songs AND get the accuracy while index players are just fighting for a combo)

don't see why people whould feel guilty of playing with four fingers...

but i still like three fingers more

Yay, I play one handed too <3 I might go to spread soon though, because it's annoying that my hand just can't seem to keep up with some of the harder songs ~.~ However, lately I feel like switching to left-handed just so I can be better coordinated with that hand XD

I think that if somebody played with 4 fingers and they felt guilty about they either have emotional problems or they should just switch to two fingers. Personally i played 2 indexes until shash told me to switch to spread and ive improved at LEAST 10 fold and im not gunna lie, i dont feel guilty. (it did take a long time to learn spread though)

I've been playing four-fingered since I was a wee newbie. That's just how my friend taught me, so that's what I use. There's nothing unfair about it. Each style has pros and cons, and it's "better" to use different styles for different types of songs.

And i really think that because it seperates your hands so they're not smushed together, and lets you tap the keys harder, i think. I've been four fingered also so i'm not really biased.

I agree, that's a good advantage for spread, because I sometimes trip over my fingers so to speak when I'm doing tricky patterns.

Not to mention Shash and Baha are perfect examples why spread is best

I thought Shash was four finger. At least it looked like it in his vids
