What if someone kept the patterns but synced the legacy Genre?

just was rethinking what I said about that.

It isn't the syncing alone. It's got some things to do about the patterns as well. Face it, if I stepped the most sync'd version of Crowdpleaser V1 and didn't touch the patterns at all, and submitted it today, it would be [--]'d by every judge.

However, some songs would be fine (eg. Story of Snowman and Sunshine Girl) if they were sync'd and had some minor adjustments.

p.s. I'd be fine with FFR going down for a couple of days just to be able to do a mass renewal of the Legacy files.

There's absolutely nothing saying that they won't have easy access to the files anymore -- having to work for a token doesn't mean it's tough to access, it just means that it requires more effort.

Either way, this isn't a legacy discussion; it's a matter of determining whether or not a Revo/CP/DP/RATO move is justifiable (which on its own is still somewhat outside of the scope of this thread). In-game scoring mechanics make this a big deal and will be the reason I'll permanently advocate moving those files, as files like that likely won't get accepted in FFR again.
