my sister insists that mayonnaise is pronounced, "MANNAYZ" While I, along with my brothers, nieces, and nephews say, "MAYO-NAYZ" ;
She says that we are saying it wrong.

Perhaps she's right. Perhaps she's wrong. Perhaps we're both right. Perhaps we're both wrong.

but really, why is it that people say, "Hey, could you pass the may-yo?" and not, "Hey, could you pass the MAHYO?" or, "Hey, could you pass the Man?"
