4 finger vs index or other

for some reason, i just cant adjust to 4 finger. i'm an indexer, and often switch with my middle fingers when my indexes get too tired during a song, such as gradeus. this means i use my index(or middle) to cover two keys, and the other to cover the other two keys. the downfall for indexing is a certain step pattern in some songs that is nearly impossibly to accomplish with index. any suggestions on using 4 finger?(1 finger 1 key)
