Okay technically according to my parents this is my second job. First job was school. This is my first paying job. I'm now a cashier at Taco Bell about 15 minutes away from my house. I go get trained on the cash register on Thursday and I'll be working there until I leave for basic training in October. And tomorrow is my 18th birthday. WHOO HOO. I am very excited about both of these adventures. They are going to be soo different from what I am used to. I'm use to being able to do what I want basically when I wanna do it. It'll be different having obligations outside of school and working out. We'll see how it works out.

I wrote this poem shortly after I woke up from the freakiest dream I've ever had. Hopefully you guys can help me name it.

Laying awake in my bed,
In the twilight hours of the night
A thought comes to mind
It scares me more than anything
A terrifying dream occurred just seconds before.

Laying awake in my bed,
Drenched in a cold sweat
The dream was so vivid
It felt so real
Will it really happen
Or was it just my overactive imagination?

Laying awake in my bed,
Trying to calm myself down
It was just a dream
But it was so real
The screams and the tears.

Laying awake in my bed,
Trying to recap what I just saw.
One minute nothing but sand and smoke
The next a room full of people in black.

Laying awake in my bed,
Trying to fight back the tears
My mother clinging to a wooden box
Screaming at God
My stepfather pulling my mother away
Friends crying and holding each other
Make their way to the front to my family.

Laying awake in my bed,
Controlling the shallow labored breathing
Where am I
Why am I not there to comfort my mother
A sickening thought hit
It’s me in the box.

Laying awake in my bed,
Holding back the wave of nausea
I finally see myself
Laying peaceful in a box in uniform
The only way I would go young.
Sitting awake in my bed,
Drenched in sweat
Breathing like a runner
Stomach unsettled like the sea
I realize I’m afraid.
