   It's a scale model one of these: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballista
   built out of wood, rope, a bit of PVC pipe, and screws. It's about 3 feet by 2 feet and shoots a rather pitiful 10 - 15 feet. It sure looks cool though.
