FEATHERS (a poem)

I’m locked up tight
Inside this darn house
There’s no light
I’m trapped like a mouse.
Let me out
Won’t you set me free?
So I can get out of here
And fulfill my need.
All my friends
Wait for me
Outside the door
They want me to be free.
Behind this wall
There’s no one but me
No one is here
To see what I see.
I’m waiting for this
To finally end
So I can leave here…
Go around the bend.
These are my friends
They are always here,
Obviously and certainly.
When I spread my wings
They don’t hold me back.
They let me go free
But keep me on track
But I’m back
Inside this house
Once again,
Trapped like a mouse.
It seems there is a cycle
A turn of events
All the “insiders”
Think that I’m bent.
In it all
I cry, I laugh,
But inside I’m all
Torn in half.
Trapped inside these walls,
I’m nothing to be
Writing in blood,
Won’t you set me free?
