I think it symbolizes temptation, such as the apple in the Garden of ...umm..(I don't remember) Eden? I'm not Christian so I dunno.
But also...think about it, Apples are usually used as 'bad/evil' things in movies, such as The witch with the poison apple, The Golden apple (greek).
Apples = bad. Temptation, reklessness, evil.
Just a random thought for the day.
