WIN AN XBOX or PS2 + R2 RELEASE DATE!
First I would like to say GGR2!.. which stands for Gobble
Gobble R2. What does that mean? It means that the first version of R2 will be
released on November 25th (Thanksgiving!). R2 will not replace FFR
but will be developed alongside FFR as a separate game. We have worked long and
hard in order to make this game a reality and our very VERY limited budget has
made it even that much more difficult. In the end we have been able to come
through and provide this game for the public at no cost.
R2 (as is FFR) will be free for all to play and will
contain all the functions seen in the beta video plus many more that were not
finished at the time the beta video was created. As the months roll by after the
release, we will be regularly adding new features and music. We have enough
planned to keep us busy for at least 3 years and will continue to accept new
ideas from the R2 discussion on the FFR forums.
Many of you have commented on how similar R2 looks to DWI,
StepMania or even DDR. This is because R2 is first and foremost a DDR type dance
simulator. We currently have 100% DWI compatibility and have even expanded on
the DWI format. The details of the expanded format will be released after the
release of R2.
Upon launch we expect to have 30-40 100% original simfiles
with 100% original steps and music. While there may be special versions of old
songs, we do not anticipate old songs from FFR for the initial launch of R2. We
have been granted a usage license by the authors of all music that we use in the
game and we do NOT condone piracy or copyright infringement. Bands and musicians
work hard to bring us this music and we are very grateful to them for granting
us a license to use their work at no cost. We are committed to promoting these
artists.
FFR recently had a member quit the FFR and Simulator scene.
Unfortunately this member was in charge of the R2 simfile group and was unable
to complete his job. In his absence I have dug down deep and have come up with a
way to move us forward at a much quicker pace. I have come up with a way to both
kick off R2 and provide us with quality simfiles.
THE FIRST OFFICIAL R2 SIMFILE CONTEST!!
No, we are not kidding. Yes the top prize is a brand new
Xbox or PS2 (your choice). All entries will be judged by our panel of 10 judges
(to be announced). The
judges range from some of the best simfile pros to the complete noob. This
enables a fair evaluation of all simfiles. Spook Goblin will be playing the role
of prize patrol and will be sending the prizes to each of the winners on the
very day the contest ends. Each of the pads that will be awarded will be high quality soft pads with heavy duty foam inserts.
| 1st Prize: | A PS2 or Xbox Game System! | Konami’s DDR (XBOX DDR Ultramix or Ps2 DDR Extreme) | 2 Pads |
| 2nd Prize: | Konami’s DDR (XBOX DDR Ultramix or Ps2 DDR Extreme) | 1 Pad | |
| 3rd Prize: | 1 Pad | ||
| 4th Prize: | A Date with lightdarkness |
How to win:
Find songs that you like in the R2StepPack and create simfiles for any
of the songs provided. You can use Stepmania, DWI, Notepad or any other tool you
wish to create these simfiles. All entries will be reviewed at the end of
the contest and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners will receive prizes. All
other entries will be reviewed for entry into R2. By submitting your simfiles to
FFR, you grant FFR unrestricted permission to use them in R2 for no charge.
Simfile submissions become the property of FFR upon submission. FFR mods, admins
and judges are not eligible to win. Everyone else is fair game. Feel free to
spread the word about this contest.
Rules for entries:
The primary focus of this contest is quality and then secondary is
quantity. Both quality and quantity are important. Someone with 2 great simfiles
will lose to someone with 3 great simfiles. Tonight we will be releasing an
R2StepPack that will contain all the songs that you will be able to choose from
while creating your entries. Below are some general rules for you to follow throughout the life of
this contest. If we find that people are trying to bend or abuse the rules, we
reserve the right to change them during the course of the contest.
You may enter as many versions of
a simfile as you wish.
No background or graphics are
needed.
Simfiles with an incorrect gap
will be discarded.
Simfiles with incorrect BPM will
be discarded.
Simfiles that are incomplete will
be discarded.
Simfiles with music not included
in the R2StepPack will be discarded.
Simfiles without Beginner, Light,
Standard and Heavy steps will be discarded.
No submissions or corrections will
be accepted after the deadline.
Your simfiles must be 100%
original.
No BPM changes allowed in this
particular contest. (R2 will handle them)
All Simfiles must be in DWI
format.
The contest deadline is FINAL.
IF YOU DISTRIBUTE YOUR ENTRY TO ANYONE OTHER THAN FFR, IT
WILL BE TAKEN OUT OF R2, THE FILE WILL BE DESTROYED, AND YOU WILL BE BANNED TO
THE FURTHEST DEPTHS OF HADES. =0
Deadline for Entries:
The deadline for all entries is November 20th 11:59pm
Central Standard Time. This gives you nearly 1 month to create your simfiles. I
can’t wait until Thanksgiving. Good luck to everyone.
Starting tonight, there will be a specific R2 Contest simfile submission area open in the forum. Please upload all your submissions in that forum. Only official judges will be able to see and download your submissions once they have been uploaded.
Stay Tuned.. GGR2

Lean Forward
On a more happy note. Today I am releasing FFR .68 for public testing. Thank you to everyone who has been so patient for so long on this.
What is .68 you ask?
True Realtime Multiplayer.
You basically connect to the multiplayer chat from within FFR, create a game, wait for a player to join, both load the same level and then it auto-launches with split screen.
Now, there are bound to be bugs. Sometimes the status doesn’t reset when you exit the lobby. If this happens, simply presh F5 to refresh the page and it will reset everything for you. New features will evolve as the multiplayer moves forward but I must take care of a few other things first.
Enjoy
Cheers,
Synthlight
*EDIT* – *FIXING BUGS. MULTIPLAYER PORTION WILL BE UP AND DOWN THIS EVENING.*
Lean Back
This morning I made a horrible little mistake and typed rm -fr flash* which basically destroyed my test and normal FFR databases. Luckily I keep backups and have restored from 2 days ago. If you have registered in the last 2 days you will need to register again.
And no there are no easy methods to undelete in ext3 under Linux.
Just a quick FYI to all music producers/artists.
Attention ANY and ALL music producers. We are accepting submissions for music in FFR R2. If you are new to FFR or just reading this, basically picture the idea of your music being displayed to hundreds of thousands of people.
You can post your music in the FFR R2 Music Submission forum. By uploading files into this forum you acknowledge that you are the copyright owner of the file you are uploading and that you give FFR the rights to use your submission. Only certain members of the FFR R2 team have the ability to download the files you submit, so don’t worry, no public or registered users will have download capability.
If you are interested in becoming a FFR in-house artist, meaning much of your music will be on FFR, please follow these guidelines for making music for FFR. A good example of an in house artist would be people like SuperGreenX for FFR, or Naoki for DDR or dj TAKA and TaQ for Beatmania.
Just a quick FYI to you all.
Peace,
-Arch
R2 Preview Video (Divx Codec Needed)
Once upon a time there lived a long and drawn out story of a lonely little flash game called R2. This game called R2 went through countless hands and rewrites for nearly a year and a half, never quite blossoming the way expected due to the difficulty of making a perfect and true DDR sim in Flash and personal schedules.
Countless rewrites, coders and graphic redesigns later we find ourselves hitting spring of 04′ and I run across Soccr743 who for some time had been interested in FFR and demonstrated that he could accomplish what I was looking for with Flash. He proved himself able to do anything my mouth could throw at him and continued to succeed in feature after feature at breakneck speed while I just watched in amazement.
It wasn’t long before I found myself directing the efforts of Soccr743 while I tackled the task of putting together the graphics of R2. Spigumus also chimed in and created the arrows and meter bar graphics. At this point Spook G from For Great Justice! expressed interest in developing loops. Aperson was generous enough to create ambient sounds and sound effects.
And so the R2 team was starting to form…
Arch0wl, Jello and others started expressing interest in developing stepfiles and finding new artists to be used in R2. Their efforts no doubt will prove themselves valuable as R2 continues to move forward. We continue to look for quality songs and stepfile makers. Please PM one of the admins if you are interested and qualified.
I think it is important to note that R2 will not replace FFR. They will co-exist on this site with seperate development paths. .68 will still come out and R2 will continue forward at the same time.
Below you find the link to the R2 preview video. Captured at 30fps. playback on 2.2ghz+ machines will yield 50-60fps or higher in the browser and up to 120fps as an executable. Because of the CPU time used to capture, the preview video = about the performance of a 1.6ghz P4. I am not committing to a feature list quite yet but you will be able to see alot of what is in store just by gazing at the interface. At this point I can tell you that R2 is 90% complete and we are in the process of wrapping up the final features (like modifiers), wiring the backend, adding content and polishing.
It has been a long summer of hard work and fun filled days for all of us.. I endured one of the toughest work schedules in my 10 years of working. I had toe surgery, a failed root canal and nearly passed out from kidney stones while working at 4am and had to be rushed to the hospital. It will all be worth it once R2 starts to roll, that is for sure. And of course… You will be able to play for free.
Thanks to goes out to Soccr743, Spook G, Spigumus and Aperson for donating their time and to the many who have tested the code and continue to test the code for bugs. (Arch, LD, Flypie, the site admins and others I am forgetting to mention)
Long live DDR! Long Live FFR/R2!
