NeoMax & Beethoven Virus Alive Once Again
For the last few weeks level “NeoMax” has been giving us troubles recording scores. At first we thought the table was corrupt, we spent hours working on it. In the end we found out that it was a level creation error and we were able to preserve all 30,000+ scores in NeoMax and fix it so that it can record.
The NeoMax levelstats can be found NeoMax Levelstats
In other news….. Please give a warm welcome back to BeethovenVirus. Enjoy

Merry FFR Christmas
Well, I hope Santa was good to everyone out there. If not, you can find comfort in the fact that FFR Santa spent an obscene amount of money on a new server here at FFR so that everyone can play FFR and use the site without slowdowns and disconnects. This new badboy brings an additional 16GB of ram to FFR and is a dedicated MySQL database server with plenty of 15k rpm drives. Did I mention any additional 4 cores? yup, we should have atleast a year before we outgrow this one.
Enjoy your vacations and happy holidays to everyone. While we should be fully switched and setup, please report any strange bugs that you find while we migrate to this new server.
Did everyone enjoy the 12 days of FFRMas? Comments? Suggestions?
Cheers,
Synthlight and a special breed of elves called “Opterons”
The 12th Song of FFRmas: Carol Megamix by Hiro
Well guys, this entire thing has been a lot of work for me, but SO MUCH fun too. And it wouldn’t be a proper ending without a holiday jingle. Carol Megamix is probably well known already by many of you, from O2Jam. Not only did Rebirth step this, he also went out and got permission to use it from Hiro.
In case you were wondering, the songs in the mix are:
0:00-0:15 – Made up
0:15-0:39 – Jingle Bells
0:39-1:03 – Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
1:03-1:16 – Made up
1:16-1:30 – Joy to the World
1:30-2:19 – Santa Claus is Coming to Town
2:19-2:36 – Made up
You can find the Megamix in Misc. It will be in the upper left for the next week (and every Christmas season in the future), but in non-Christmas time, it will be at the end of Misc, past Jelly Roll Blues. I’d say it is a 4 or 4.5 in difficulty, nothing too challenging, BUT… you may say that this file is overstepped. Well, it is. But there is a very good reason for it… I’m sure everyone will figure out what that reason is for themselves.
So, have a Merry Christmas everyone! Or a Happy Hanukkah, if you’re an Israelite like myself. And we wouldn’t want to forget about our friends who celebrate Kwanzaa, Festivus, or any other End-of-December joyous event.
We’ll go back to our normal SotW starting next Sunday night. Or will we….
Enjoy your presents from FFR and enjoy the mystery,
Tass & all the other not-quite-as-cool FFR Staffers.
CHARDISH EDIT: Tass, you only wish you were as cool as me.
I wanted to thank everyone for their enthusiasm during the 12 Songs of FFRmas. These songs were all kind of like Christmas presents for you, but everyone’s support for the game is like a constant year-round present for us. We love you guys.
A bunch of the music for these 12 days was taken from 3rd Style. As the music coordinator for 3rd Style, let me assure you that there’s still plenty of good stuff on the way. All of 3rd’s music is very good – and while some of the best songs were featured this week, some of the best is still yet to come. Keep waiting for it – trust me, it’s going to be phenomenal.
Cheers,
Chardish
Day 11: Play It Funky by CanBlaster
Well… despite what y’all may think, I do have a life outside of FFR. Which is why the past 2 songs have been late in their release. Also, because it is quite late, this news post will be brief.
This song is our first Funk song in FOUR FULL YEARS, and completes my goal of adding at least 1 new song to every genre. Play it Funky is a remix of the song Play That Funky Music by the one hit wonder band Wild Cherry. Remix is by CanBlaster and the stepfile is by dore. You can find it in funk, currently 2nd row in the middle, although this may change. The song is not very difficult to Full Combo, although the odd syncopation will make it a wee bit harder to AAA.
Enjoy and may the funk be with you,
Day 10: Rottel-da-station by Sampling Masters CHANG
While Synth and Jason work on getting that new server set up, and while Tass keeps on re-adding those scores that were deleted recently, we release our 10th Christmas song: Rottel-da-station by Sampling Masters CHANG.
To put it bluntly, this song is not for newbies in any way. Not only is it the hardest of our holiday songs this year, easily picking up a 5.5 rating on the 6-point scale, it’s also hidden from view unless you’ve managed to amass an extremely large number of FFR credits. That’s right, Rottel-da-station is our 24th secret song, and it requires a whopping 20,000 credits to play. Steps are by me and include long streams of 8ths filled with jumps, bursts of awkward 16th jumpstream or even just 16th jumps, and even a few 32nd bursts–not a song that will be FC’d by many, or AAA’d by anything short of a miracle run from an elite player. For those of you who meet the credit requirement: good luck. For the rest…keep playing and you’ll get there eventually
Tomorrow we visit a genre that’s been untouched for quite a while. And of course, something quite special for Christmas day.
Happy jumpstreaming,
Day 9: Tension by Inspector K
Once again guys, we apologize for the loss of scores on the previous 8 days + Coat Czech. What it really comes down to is that we knew how amazing everyone one of those songs were… so we wanted to make sure you all played them at least one more time.
.
Tonight’s song is our second release by famed ITG artist Kyle Ward. Tension is released under his Insector K alias, but he is the same guy as Smiley, who did Delirium. The stepchart is by Kit-, and is fairly straight forward at 180bpm stream and just under 1000 notes in 1:56. I’d rate it a mid 4.5. Nothing at all compared to TOMORROW’s file. Muh haha. Then days 11 and 12 are special.
We also felt that Tension was appropriate for tonight, given that we’re all quite tense in our anticipation for that new server tomorrow. Will be such a blessing without all of those Server Overloaded messages.
Enjoy and happy times,
Tass & his 3 cats, Pixel (the fats one), Corey (the boy cat), and Maya (the rat).
Twelve Days of FFRmas.. Wash, Rinse and Repeat.
Yes, it’s true.. Synthlight made a mistake this afternoon trying to shuffle files around on the server. Score records from 12 days of FFRmas have been reset. Tass is working to re-enter the top scores that we know of. This problem stems from the clever and sometimes not so clever ways we try to extend our capability on site.
The good news is that the new server is on it’s way and arrives tomorrow afternoon. During the afternoon I will be down at the datacenter setting things up and relieving our growing pains.
If you want to look at this in a good way, you have a better chance of being in the top 10 scores for now.
Cheers,
Synthlight + Please get here Mr. FedEx truck with our server.
Day 8: January’s Song by The Fat’s Sabobah
Yes, today’s song is called January’s Song. We’re quite aware that it’s not January yet, but we’re putting this song out anyway in…anticipation.
The song is by The Fat’s Sabobah, known on FFR as forum moderator and long-time FFR vet jewpinthethird. Last night’s song took a nosedive in difficulty from Day 6′s song, and we’ll be somewhat gradually climbing back up again in difficulty, as you can see from tonight’s song–it’s around a 3/3.5 on the 6-point scale, using some jump-step 8th patterns and 16th bursts, although at a rather low BPM. The steps are by jimerax, and they’re as fun to play as all of jimerax’s files are.
The song can be found in Misc. Why Misc again? Tass and I feel that Dance is getting rather long, and that it’s better to have a couple bigger genres then a lot of tiny genres and one gigantic, 10+ page genre.
Anyway, have fun with January’s Song.
Merry FFR’ing,
Weathering the Storm
For the next hour, multiplayer and profile chat will be down while we try to keep system load under control. We appreciate your patience.
Cheers,
Synthlight
