(Reject)

Bit on the fence about this one, some sections are amazing and other sections kinda felt off to me.

- The use of 2-note minijacks feels a bit overdone in this. The minijacks to the banjo feel quite nice, but then you use minijacks for the vocals @29.004, for the drop @35.782 and it makes the minijacks feel less impactful as a pattern.
- I hate bringing this up because I know you're tonedeaf, but I think this file suffers from PR issues. Especially noticeable to me @41.689, 55.911, 63.022 et cetera, where you put 3 notes on the same column that are clearly changing pitch.

I think this file deserves a more detailed review so I vote 'reject' on it for now.

ACCEPT.

This chart is alright. I think it could benefit from some polishing but overall it brings a good variety of fun patterns that fit the music relatively well. That being said, idk if it was intentional but from 42.892 all the way to 1:25.559, there's such a heavy usage of (12) and (34) that it feels somewhat same-y/redundant quickly. I would suggest adding a bit or variety there.

Was gonna mention PR but M0nkeyz already did so and I agree with what he pointed out. However it's not too distracting for a reject imo.

Reject

I don't really have anything to add here, that hasn't already been mentioned. At least in the context of this batch.

Consider this judgement pretty much just echoing everything M0nkeyz said. I kind of like it but it definitely needs some detailed/specific polish.

This file gets an Accept for me.

I have the polar opposite of opinions of M0nkeyz in this case - the layering choice of minijacks to the vocals feel very conscious and it has a pretty striking effect to me, so being this deliberate is nice. I have no qualms about the minijack use in general though, it's mostly there to keep me on my toes.

I do think one of OP's points actually are valid - unlike your submission of Policy in The Sky!, the use of [12] and [34] pretty heavily gives less of a differentiation to what's mostly being layered in this. I usually don't point this out much, being a tech-heavy file like this it gets old and drag along than it needs to be.

I do want to give this file a chance, and comparing with Pizza69's Swamp Thing this file definitely tackles on a different angle.

Accept.

I think this file works. I Love the bouncy middle column minijacks for both the banjo and vocal sections, and the splashes of color are nice throughout the file. The 32nds are done tastefully in that the pattern variations/intensity matches up with the crescendi.

In both 32-35 secs and 103-106 secs I thought you could have done more with the climax theory, for example adding an extra 16th after each 8th to the 103-106 section about halfway through to boost intensity a bit more and also anticipate the straight 16ths that come directly after, but I don't necessarily have any qualms with leaving each with the bursts as you did. Just some thoughts.

Overall, I think most FFR players will enjoy this file. It's not overdoing anything and it's kinda charming.

PS: I love the sparse 8th section with the alternating jumps.

Moving to Accept

Thank you for your submission to the dump batch! Don't forget dump files can also be sent/resubmitted to any regular batch.

Thanks for the notes. I mentioned this in the judge chat but I was completely fine with this being rejected if the main reason for this chart being not acceptable is PR and I wouldn't want to waste any of the judges' time making detailed notes for this.

The chart's main motif is built on minijacks from the banjo and everything progresses from it. The heavy use of [12]/[34] throughout the chart is mostly to put the minijacks in the chart front and center. The PR is definitely wrong and I think that becomes a particularly jarring concern for a song so melodic, but I don't agree with PR being the only approach possible for this chart in the first place. As for the [12]/[34] use, using any other form of jump creates other forms one-handed gallop patterns (e.g. 334 or 221) which muddles the minijack feel of the chart overall. I'd be strongly against this.

As for 32-35s/103-106s, I remember trying to make this a bit more intense but I couldn't find anything that worked. I think using 16ths after the 8ths was one of them and it just felt too continuous for my taste.
