I mainly focused on the melody and kicks/snares and filled out some of the more empty spots by filling in some notes to the bass here and there (at 96.514 for example)

I also left out some jumps to kicks for playability/letting the melody stand out more in certain spots (112.630 for example)

The somewhat empty part at 129.903 - 145.357 is on purpose to build up to the next section

I really like the drum section at the end, it might be a bit of a spike, but I had no problem hitting it as a D5 player.

- 0:02.300 I feel like the intro is a real missed opportunity for some more minijacks in this chart. There are tons of repeated notes perfect for minijacks. With how prominent jacks are in the rest of the file it really feels like there should be some here.

- 0:02.362 Missing 32nd for the cymbal here.

- 0:14.201 This isn't a horn note here so this should be removed.

- 0:16.398 I dont think this trill pattern here really reflects the music here. The two main instruments here are the percussion and synth(?). One is descending in pitch and the other is ascending. Neither or those really warrant a trill like this.

- 0:17.300 The laying and note choice just seems a bit messy in this section. We have the horns which all have notes and makes sense, but the note for the percussion around them feels a bit arbitrarily placed. 0:17.300 doesn't get a note, but 0:18.168 is a jump. 0:19.283 is another missing note. 0:17.796 gets a jump, but 0:19.779 isn't and 0:20.027 doesn't even get a note. 0:23.126 doesn't have notes but 0:24.118 gets 2 jumps. you get the idea.

- 0:25.482 This note should be jacked with the rest of them, similar to 0:28.829

- 0:29.200 This is a fairly soft kick which gets a jump, but comparing it to all the other kicks in the section the other ones dont get jumps. directly comparing it to 0:25.234 there is also no jump and another example of just how messy the layering is.

- 0:30.812 A quick example of my issues with the layering in this section and how i would fix it. The horns here are the most important instrument and the percussion is kind of secondary. so instead of placing jumps for the percussion, lets use them for the accented horn notes here and just single notes for the percussion, Leaving 0:31.928 as is. This breaks the layering scheme for a quick section to focus on whats important, while not ignoring some of the percussion.

- 0:40.481 You were willing to use 3 note jacks at 0:24.366 so why not here?

- 0:40.616 These white/pink graces are cool, but the pitch on each one is quite different, with 0:41.111 descending in pitch unlike the others. I really dont think they should all be the same grace like this.

- 0:43.832 if you're going to color these the same as the last grace, shouldn't all 3 64ths also be on the same column? They sound like the same pitch to me.

- 0:46.587 I'm really not a fan of this 64th burst. While you have the grace and the percussion here i feel like 3 notes is just too many and 1 of them should be removed.

- 0:53.498, 0:53.994, 0:54.489, ect. Its really strange to see the lack of graces or colored notes for these notes when it sounds like they grace, or at least or accented in some way. Its a bit weird where else where there are obvious colored notes at what feels like the end of every keyboard phrase.

- 0:56.225 Minor nitpick, I REALLY dislike it when you have 2 jumps anchor like this when they are different instruments, Especially when the previous 4 notes were all snares, only have a maximum jack of 2 notes, but this creates a 3 note anchor.

- 1:04.407 This note should really be a hand with that loud cymbal crash and everything.

- 1:11.587 This is EXACTLY what i was talking about with 0:30.812 This section does everything previously done in the similar sections but much better.

- 1:12.240 Another candidate for receiving a hand. A very climactic and powerful note.

- 1:14.582 The color theory is cool and all, but with the different pitch and PR, i think it would be better if this wasn't the exact same pattern as the other two. Something simple as a mirror could do a good enough job reflecting (lol) this.

- 1:18.167 Sounds like this should be a 24th burst and not a 32nd, with the notes landing on 48ths.

- 1:20.522 See previous notes on the similar earlier section. many of the same stuff still applies.

- 1:38.994, 1:39.368 I'm not sure the color theory works as well on these notes. These notes stay the same pitch throughout unlike the previous notes. 1:39.489 is a sound more suited to be colored but isn't.

- 1:40.233 surprised these 2 notes aren't graced.

- 1:52.433 the white notes here feel a bit random. It doesn't sound like something that should be color theoried but just where the notes "happened" to land on. I think there is a better way to sync the notes here that doesn't require all these white notes.

- 2:08.249 another weird 2 note jack that should be 3.

- 2:51.245 missing snare note in this gap.

- 3:09.076 Another missing snare note. really check these gaps because there seems to be a lot of softer hits that go uncharted that really should be.

Overall i do think there are many good ideas and its generally well put together, but I have to question the layering and how messy it can be.

0.565/8.499 - Would be better if this sound would be a jump.
0.813-0.937 - These two jumps sound like singles, specifically 3 into 2
14.201 - Ghost note. Not part of the horn.
23.622 - Should be [23].
38.870 - Missing note. Organ piano.
40.357 - Should be [23].
46.587 - Ghost note.
54.613-55.109 - This section sounds descending. Fix PR to reflect this.
1:03.911-1:04.283 - Fix PR.
1:32.919 - Missing note.
1:47.505-1:47.588 - Sounds more like singles.
1:57.960 - I suggest this jump to be anything but [14] or [23].
1:58.084-1:58.828 - Fix PR.
2:46.679 - Should be single. Still part of the drum roll.
2:51.235 - Missing note.
3:08.373-3:08.621 - Change to [23][13]4 to properly express this descending section.

>>Melody/kicks/snares were indeed stepped. PR was a bit iffy tho.

@storn

- 0:02.300: I don't think these notes are the same pitch, I think the 8th is lower in pitch.
- 0:02.362: I actually think I should remove the 32nds to the soft hi-hats altogether, they're kinda soft and having 4-note 32nd bursts feels like overkill.
- 0:14.201: I tested it without and it just feels like a missing note to me...
- 0:16.398: Changed it up.
- 0:17.300: 18.168 is a kick, 17.300 is a hi-hat. 19.779 sounds like a soft tom while 18.168 is a louder kick. Making 20.027 a jump would be too intense for the sound imo and a single would make it confusing since all the singles are to the brass. the kicks at 24.118 are fairly loud and 23.127 are 2 soft sounds that the bass is playing. I don't agree that my layering is messy, but it's fairly contingent on the intensity of the sounds.
- 0:25.482: done
- 0:29.200: I changed it, but calling the layering messy is a bit much imo considering we're dealing with acoustic drums with different intensity here.
- 0:30.812: This seems highly subjective, I feel the percussion is prominent enough to be highlighted and leaves enough room for the horns to be noticed as well, I also think the rhythm of the percussion is more interesting. I'd also run into problems later when the horns start playing 16th melodies.
- 0:40.481: Changed it up.
- 0:40.616: Changed it up.
- 0:43.832: I'm like 99% sure the 2nd 64th is higher pitched.
- 0:46.587: I agree, changed it up.
- 0:53.498, 0:53.994, 0:54.489: I put a grace on 54.489, the only other one worth putting a grace on is 53.994, but that one is awkwardly placed between 2 jumps so I don't want to create another pseudo jump.
- 0:56.225: Made it a 4-note jack
- 1:04.407: I don't do that anywhere else in the file and it would make the transition into the solo harder.
- 1:11.587: The brass is WAY more intense here, I find the brass more interesting here as well.
- 1:12.240: Do you mean 72.341? I don't agree, I think doing that distracts from the PR.
- 1:14.582: Not a fan of mirroring the pattern, will put 74.717 on [4] tho. I also made subtle changes to the other colored sections to differentiate them.
- 1:18.167: It's not 24ths/48ths, it's a 96th at 78.147. Changed it.
- 1:20.522: Made changes accordingly.
- 1:38.994: The pitch is descending and I do think it's worth highlighting.
- 1:40.233: These are good candidates for a grace note, but I think them being isolated is emphasis enough and graces would interfere with the [14] jump before it.
- 1:52.433: These aren't color theory'd, this is what the music actually does. The beats are on-sync, but the melody is playing off-beat. 112.785 should be a 64th tho.
- 2:08.249: Changed it in a different way to fit PR.
- 2:51.245: It's a 64th at 171.235, but I added it.
- 3:09.076: Will check for missing arrows, but I can't hear this one.

Thank you for your notes, I think there are some fundamental differences when it comes to how we approach layering. I do agree that this file could benefit from some touch-ups, but I disagree that the layering is ''very messy'', it's a complex song with complex rhythms with drums that vary alot in intensity, I'm bound to make some mistakes or overlook some things, but overall I think I capture the essence of the song fairly well with my chart, that's why I'm probably appealing this too, I want to make changes to PR and I did make alot of changes based on your notes, but I don't think it should be rejected status personally.

@ositz:

0.565/8.499: Disagree, I like the arrows to the flams.
0.813-0.937: Agree.
23.622: True.
38.870: I'm following the organ here, don't think the organ is playing here.
40.357: This kinda contradicts storn's note, so I elect to follow his note on this one.
46.587: Technically the grace should be on 46.566, but I prefer it to be spaced out a bit more.
54.613-55.109: Changed it.
1:03.911-1:04.283: done.
1:32.919: Added a grace at 92.857.
1:47.505-1:47.588: I agree it could work as singles, but I think it contrasts the melody nicely.
1:57.960: Lack of room is kind of an issue here, I don't think making this a 3 or 4-note jack would fit the intensity very well.
1:58.084-1:58.828: I fixed it, I think.
2:46.679: This tom seems a lot more intense than the other notes.
2:51.235: Yep, added.
3:08.373-3:08.621: 188.250 is higher pitched than 188.622 isn't it?

Thanks for the notes, I agree PR in this could be improved. Made this chart a while back and it's hard to say why I stepped certain sections the way I did, but I'm definitely gonna make a few adjustments and either resubmit or send in fixes in case the appeal judge accepts it.

Looking through storn's notes, I gather the bulk of the reason for the rejection is the messy layering in the first bit. I think the layering there is overall acceptable in that a lot of the inconsistencies mentioned are done (tastefully, imo) to match the intensity of the song or are referring to two different instruments and hence not technically inconsistent. That said, I would personally have preferred layering revolving more around the horn because I feel it is more important than the percussion at this stage of the song. I think that storn does raise a lot of valid concerns, including a couple which you disagreed with such as the 14.201 note (this is actually inconsistent since you don't follow 14.449, and I don't feel it's necessary for flow) and 3:09.076 (I hear a snare here too), but I do think this is acceptable.

14.201: removed it.

3:09.076: Added.

I also tightened up my jump use throughout the entire file for a much smoother experience.

Made alot of changes according to the judge notes, they were really useful. I just didn't agree with the final rating.
