sleeplessdragn - Requiem To Summer's Angel
First song on the list:
http://www.rithum.com/sleeplessdragn I think this is going to be my FFR contest entry. I spent a good amount of time just working on the final mix, but I still feel like something is bothering me somewhere, can't quite put my finger on it. I'm definitely up for any modifications though, so suggestions are very welcome! |

Re: sleeplessdragn - Requiem To Summer's Angel
The very first synth we hear (the synth that's play F C D E (I assume those are the notes?)), which plays through almost the entire song after it's introduced, has kind of a "hollow" timbre. It's also a wee bit cheesy. Try messing around with it.
Also, the vocal sample doesn't even sound like its in key. It sounds really dissonant. I suggest getting that in key if it isn't.

Re: sleeplessdragn - Requiem To Summer's Angel
Well the song is in the key of Eb, so those aren't the notes it was playing. Actually, I can't even really pinpoint which synth you're talking about since you only listed four notes, and every one of my phrases run through more than four notes. I think I know which one you're talking about (the synth playing the 8th note phrases), and frankly I made it sound like that on purpose, it was actually kind of difficult for me to get that sound right. It kind of saddens me to hear that you don't think it fit well with the song.
And since I made the vocal sample with Hatsune Miku, it's quite in key. The dissonance you hear is probably due to the fact that it's set at such a high range with a synth at a similar frenquency sweeping behind it. I don't understand how you could hear it so dissonant that you think that it is the wrong key though; you're the first person to say that. But besides the negative points, is there anything that you enjoyed with the song, if at all? |

I happen to really like it.
It's different, especially with the vocals. Haven't heard anything like it. Hearing it through every stage of the music making process also helps a person appreciate the music more, and the work that goes into it. |

This. I understand it probably is in key and whatever, but it sounds so forced that it came out... horribly. Would be really cool though if you brought it down an octave or something. But vocals just don't go that high pleasantly if you ask me x.x

I also semi-agree with the above poster. Putting it down an octave may work, but you may want to try adding a filter over the vocal sample instead. Overall the vocal sample just sounds really harsh. As for things I like about it... everything else. Nothing sticks out in general, but the rest is good. Not a techno producer personally, so I can't comment on anything technically brilliant. Sorry if that's too short of praise for you in comparison to all of the nasty things I said about it. To make up for it, I'm bloating this paragraph with my useless apology that makes it seem like I have more good to say about the piece. I hope this fluff made my post seem more positive. I'm also sorry in advance if this post comes off as self-satirical.

Hmm... SleeplessDragn... I really love the song. I don't know whats wrong with it (Especialy the SQUEEKY Hatsune Miku vocal. XD), but I just loved it overal. Hope this wins the FFR contest. (And sorry, not a very good music critique. XD)
Meanwhile, I may make a video for this song... (For your player of course!)

Re: sleeplessdragn - Requiem To Summer's Angel
I'll try bringing it down an octave and reposting later today. Though to me I think it really takes the burning, surprise energy out of the vocal section.

I like it a lot except for the vocals.
To me, the happiness of the music isn't matched in the vocals. Vocals sound flat for some reason (I really doubt they are, just sounds that way to me for some reason).
