Random singing
So, I was singing in the shower and I remembered this one song from French Class:
Lundi, mardi, Mercredi, mercredi mercredi Juedi, vendredi, samedi et dimanche. Il y a sept jours Dans une semaine Bonne fine de semaine A tout le monde. Got bored after singing it a few times. Question: Who else learned a foreign language here(past the required amount if it was mandatory, since in NY it's required), and if so, did you stick with it? Personally I had to drop it because it was in conflict with my cooking class. Discuss! |

Re: Random singing
Currently in Spanish IV, plan to drop the class after high school (I might be able to take a Spanish V next year). I know enough to get by in any situation in which I'd need it, and there are other languages I'm much more interested in learning, though none of those are offered at my high school.

Re: Random singing
Took Latin for two years then our teacher decided to retire. Then because NY schools are so amazing, I had to restart with Spanish and take it up to Spanish III. I don't think I'm ever going to do another Spanish class because I know enough to survive if the situation ever needed me to speak Spanish.

Re: Random singing
I studied Spanish all through High School and into college. Now I'm trying to teach myself Finnish.

Re: Random singing
I saw a commercial for those Muzzy language programs. If you have blank dvd-r discs and can get it on dvd, you could probably learn it for free. They do have that 30-day trial for it. Plus, you could end up getting German, French, and all the other languages as well.
EDIT: It's not "Muffy" anymore.

Re: Random singing
I've tried using software to teach me a language, but I just can't do it. The ones I've tried to use generally only teach you specific phrases and words, so that you have an arsenal of specific sentences for specific situations.
No, I prefer a classroom setting where I can actually learn the grammar and form my own sentences, so that I can actually attempt to be fluent. |

Re: Random singing
It's Muzzy.
'Learned' Spanish in HS, took more in college, forgot it all, learned German, remember 3/4 of it. I've always wanted to learn French or Italian but I've never had the time... Edit: I learned one sentence from commercials for Muzzy as a child and it's been extremely useful. "Je suis la jeune fille."
