Combining 2 Hard Drives
I'm repartitioning my friends computer and he has 2 hard drives. He wants them combined as one. I know how to reformat and everything but will the 2 hard drives merge as one if I partition it all into one section?

Re: Combining 2 Hard Drives
Well what type of Hard Drivers are they {ide or sata} next does the motherboard support raid? Also does he want double copy Mirror, or a stripe which is half on one half on the other. Or do you just want 2 hard drives? What type of things does he use it for?

Re: Combining 2 Hard Drives
ok well to actually make 2 seperate harddrives read as one you are going to need to know if the motherboard has support for raid arrays. Also going to need to know what style of Hard Drives they are, SATA(small plug in to mobo and hdd) or EIDE ( long flat ribbon cable into mobo or HDD) then I can help you further
If you do not have Raid support you will need to but a PCI hard disk controller that supports raid, or just deal with a c and a d drive. Have one for windows and one for data |

Re: Combining 2 Hard Drives
well i can tell you one thing now if you do not have RAID support its not going to happen. You have to use 3rd party software or the bios functions to set up the combination of the drives. and again if you do not have it just go with 2 drives

Re: Combining 2 Hard Drives
With my experience with Dell chances are if it didn't have RAID support to begin with, it's not there at all.
You'll need a RAID controller. |
