He is one of my favorite authors. He wrote the Redwall series. His stories are by far, perfect. His tales of these animals (human animals, if that makes sence) are extrodinary. Truley amazing works of art.

I read the thread title and thought you had horribly misspelled "Brain Juices."

Redwall was alright. I couldn't get into the rest of the series, though.

Just use the term "furries" and everyone will understand.

Anyway, Mossflower was probably the best book in the series (although Pearls of Lutra was the most entertaining in terms of riddles), but the series really jumped the shark at Marlfox and it wasn't much longer before I floated away from it.

Redwall on the whole never had much of a chance anyway when put up against Watership Down in my mind. Sorry, Brian, but Richard got to me first, and he got to me the most.

Redwall was great when I was in 5th/6th grade. I stopped following the series long ago.

I'm pretty sure the series had a tv show once, but I don't think it lasted long.

The only memorable thing of the seven or so redwall books I read was the Marlfox. What a cool concept. Cool, assuming you forget about furries for a few seconds.

Yeah it did, I thought the tv series was well done even though it was geared toward people younger than me. I was maybe 14-15 when I saw it. (And i loved the opening and closing music)

I used to read the Red Wall series by Brian Jacques with my friends. We'd each have our own copies and we'd race to see who could finish the book the fastest. It was a very good read at the time when I was around the age of 12 or so, and I think I learned some new words, like "parapet", whatever the heck that was, or whatever. And I found out that "JACQUES" is pronounced "jakes", not "zha khezz" I saw the RED WALL cartoon 3 years ago and it was weird. Totally worse than the books.

Good series. 17 and I still read those books from time to time. I've got a good 10 or so on my bookshelf. Favorite from Redwall series is probably either Pearls of Lutra or Outcast of Redwall. Pearls was great just for the riddles. Outcast I found interesting for...other reasons.

The entire series had a racist feel to it, whether or not Jacques actually intended it (at least, it seemed that way to me). It's most evident in Outcast, at the end where Bryony says (spoiler ahead)

"Veil was bad, I know that now. Bella was right. Some creatures cannot help being the way they are. In all the time we knew him, Veil did not perform one act of kindness to any living creature. I have thought a great deal since he died and wondered if he would have saved me if he knew his father was really going to throw that javelin. I couldn't help loving him, because that's the way I am, but I know that the world is a better place without Veil or swartt bringing death and misery to it."

To which Meriam responded: "You have grown, Bryony. Your courage and compassion were never in doubt, but you have returned to us wiser and more sensible..."

(end spoiler)

In short, mice, otters, moles, badgers, hares, etc. all always good, and stoats, ferrets, weasels, rats are always bad. Few exceptions in the case of the former, no exeption in the case of the latter (of course, a few books have come out in the last few years. I know I've probably missed something.)

I still love the books, they're just slightly tainted in my mind now. :/
I'd love to see a weasel Abbey warrior though.

My sixth grade teacher read Redwall to us.

I bought that book and then read some of the rest, but I can't remember much, I've read too many books since.

They were well written, in any case.

I liked Salamandastron and Legend of Luke. I read them in 7th grade. They were the shiznit. That is, until The Wheel of Time.

Redwall takes the phrase "every repost is repost repost" and reposts it every 5 seconds.

I read Marlfox and Redwall. Pretty neat books. I then picked up Mossflower, and to my disappointment, it felt just like Redwall (it was even published after Redwall, too). I got pretty bored with the book quickly. I did a little reading up and found out that a major criticism of his series is how the majority of them are, in exaggerated terms, the same darn thing.

I then just naturally stopped reading Mossflower and moved onto Robert Jordan (rofl).

Redwall and Marlfox were pretty good though, but I don't think I'd pick up the series again.
