Default Starting DDR

I've just started getting into DDR. My friends have been into it and watching them has been pretty annoying because I blow on it. I just bought the game for PS2 and also a pad. What else do I need to do to get better besides practice?

A bag of chips, a lawnmower, and a lantern.

Or none of the above, if you prefer. You might wanna make a quick trip to www.ddrfreak.com or Aaron In Japan (find the link yourself :P) and read some techniques that would help, but really, nothing helps more than pratice does.

playing sm and ffr helps a little bit (how to read arrows and all that) but to develop skill you have to practice!!!

If you want something more local, You can enter the "FFR General Talk" and then go to "Techniques for FFR" that has a few techniques for you.

sometimes starting on a 1 footer song helps if you play on the mat so then your feet will know where to go (arrow wise) and then move up(of how many feet) as long as you feel comfortable.

i consider depenind on your mat, STAPLE it onto something hard liek apiece of wood or youll slip.
but ye even the non-slip mats are still pt shabby unless you mange to by a pro. one

hmmm... I wanna get into DDR too... I was looking at the RedOctane Ignition 2.0 Pad (http://www.redoctane.com/ignitionpad.html) I have two questions as far as that...
1. Is this pad any good?
2. If I get good using this pad, am I going to be able to go to the arcade and do the same songs? Or is it a completely different feel?

so you wanna start ddr huh? Thats good we need more players

When I first started...at age 10... i was playing songs like cutie chaser with c's and d's.... I kept practicing songs like that and gradually moved up to cutie chaser on standrd and remember you on standard (i sure hope you are talkin about the PS2 DDRmax...not max2..). Now i am 11 and I am beating songs such as twilight zone heavy and ghosts heavy and al of that stuff....or if your on max paranoia max heavy...

IF you have purchased max2, then lemme convert cutie chaser and remember you into max2 sonngs....

cutie chaser is the equivalent of.....dive...i guess and remember you............how about i just make the analogy a universal song....secret rendezvouz..

moral of the story is just keep playin....it may not seem like it but slowly you are getting more used to the arrows

when i first saw my friend do max300 heavy the arrows used to go literally faster than they actually do in my mind. As you start playing songs like max300, you begin to adapt to the insane speeds and u will no longer feel tat the arrows are unreadable

hope this helps
