Shadow Of The Colossus
The other day I received a demo for Shadow of the Colossus from that Playstation 2 club.. You ride your horse for a minute and then fight a colossus in this demo. I really enjoyed the atmosphere as well as the creativity you needed in order to take down the colossi. I know we have some ICO fans out there (I wasn't too impressed with that game myself) and I do remember them making a topic about this before. I checked some reviews real quick. Off the top of my head 1up gave it a 9.5.
I figured I'd make another topic because the game is released in only three days. I'm definately considering buying this game solely because of the demo. |

RE: Shadow of the Colossus
Is this that weird game with nothing but bosses, and by bosses I mean giant rock monsters?

This was about 8 topics down. but yeah, reviews coming in say it's pretty good. I don't buy new games, but I'll put this on my list.

Sorry, I didnt notice it. I am the worst mod ever. Merged.
I love how Gamestop advertised that today was the release of Shadow of the Colossus, but failed to say that they won't recieve the title until tomorrow. Wankers. I also went to Target, and the Best Buy. None of those retailers had it either. So, looks like I will be getting it tomorow then. |

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Shadow of the Colossus
Alright, so I finally picked up a copy. Once I started playing, I couldnt stop until my mom forced me to eat dinner. It is an awesome game so far. Though it does take some thinking to figure out how to topple the each colossi. I've defeated four so far, some being easier than others.
The game is set up like one huge level. The size is overwhelming and it is pretty easy to get lost. The art is stunning..ICO stunning. Though I am really digging Shadow of the Colossus so far, it hasnt captured me like ICO did, but I did just start the game. So I see how it goes later on down the line. |

This is one of those games that borderline art and video game. The pure atmosphere of the game is breath taking and taking down a Colossus is exhilirating. But, then you start to realize that you are killing the great Colossus, mythical monsters who have been here for 100s of years. Thats kind of sad in a way.
And yes I have the game.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Shadow of the Colossus
I would get this game, but I have this strange feeling in my gut, and it feels like a little man screaming "REPLAY VALUE!? WHERE IS IT!?!?"
Sounds like a good rental, though.

the replay value i hear is actually quite good. many modes get unlocked, and certain things to do are only possible on the 2nd play through...of course, i don't have the game yet, so i can't speak from personal experience...just what i've read.

The game can last for over 25 hours so I don't think you'lln be renting this one for a weekend buddy.

As of now I have defeated 10 Colossi out of 16, I believe. The first 4 were fairly easy to beat, but they've gotten tougher and tougher as time goes on. Some of the later colossi have taken me nearly an hour to find and kill.
To give you an idea of how big the world is, I spent 2 hours exploring the map and I still haven't seen everything. You really think you have seen everything on the map, and then you see a cave or a bridge you hadn't noticed before which leads to an even larger area. It just keeps growing and growing. Before exploring the map, I thought the environment was fairly uninteractive...mere eye candy. Oh how wrong I was. You can do all kinds of things. Without giving anything away, I'll just say, don't be afraid to shoot things with your bow and arrow. Paying attention to minute details really pays off. Also, I believe you can replay each colossi, called "reminesence mode", by praying by their corpse once you have defeated it. Though I can't be positive as I haven't tried it out yet. The more I play the game, the better it gets. Shadow of the Colossus is a must buy. ps. I could see knocking off this game in one weekend. I don't know how long it'll take to defeat the remaining 6 colossi but I imagine I couldnt take too long. However, you'll only be able to finish the game within that time span if you do very little exploring and since exploration is a big factor in the gameplay, you wont get the full experience. |

Alright, I just beat the game. I got nearly 17 hours of game play out of it (16:41 to be exact). Personally, I felt it was not too long, not too short.
Possible spoilers in the next few sentences...it would give away the ending, I promise and I will be as ambiguous as possible...but be warned, if you are quick on the uptake, you'll probably get a good idea of how it ends. You will appreciate the ending a lot more if you have played ICO first. Unfortunately, very few people have played ICO, so I do believe a lot of people won't entirely get the ending....at least not appreciate it. End possible spoilers This is the best game I have ever played. A perfect 10 out of 10. Spoiler: This game will also give a lot more depth to ICO. Four years was a long wait, but it was worth it. And if it is another 4 years wait before the sequel comes out, then so be it. I would also like to note that I will be replaying this game again in Hard Mode. And there is still more to unlock. |

So what kinds of unlockables are in this game that make it worth replaying and such? And there's no multiplayer whatsoever, is there? I have a feeling the game would get ridiculously boring, and I'm seriously just gonna have to find somebody who has it and borrow it.
