Default RE: Full Metal Alchemist

First of all, the name of the show is "Fullmetal Alchemist" in English.

Second, I saw it a few months ago and loved it until the last dozen or so episodes. The series just became one huge mess of things and hardly anything was explained. The ending left a lot hanging, too.

Third, I've seen the dub (after the sub) and I hate the voice actors. Ed sounds like a whiny pre-teen and Al has absolutely no emotions at all. Which would be fine if that's how the original version was made, but it wasn't. Al constantly shows emotion (through the armor, somehow...) and having an emotionless voice ruins his character.

I give the show an 8.5/10. It rocks at first, then leads you into this huge dark story, then brings you back into the comedic part of it, and it just goes on.

The best episode is 37. Just wait until you see it.

I've only seen a few episodes on adult swim and from what i seen its pretty good. I'll probably only get the manga though (wait, is there a manga?) cuz anime is too expensive.

I've only seen the dub on AS. It's great from what I can tell, but I thought the same thing when I first saw Funimation's other anime abortion they called DBZ. I should probably give Fullmetal Alchemist a chance and download the Japanese version. I'll get started on that if I get bored today.

The english dub was terrible, Squeek basically summed up my thoughts of it, although I LOVED the last 12 episodes. Just wait until the film is completed this summer, Squeek. :>

I found the anime not funny at all but childish and pathetic at the same time. Iono, there is a lot of other, better anime out there than full metal alchemist. Might I suggest Angelic Lair or Excel Saga?

Angelic Layer*

Those anime are of a completely different genre. There's no way to compare them at all. Angelic Layer is almost a Mahou Shoujo anime and Excel Saga is obviously a comedy / spoof. Fullmetal Alchemist is action and comedy. That's all.

Also, the anime was made for older teenagers. How is it childish?

I would agree with squeek here.

I watched this anime months ago, and definately about 70% of the way through, they introduce far too many sub plots and background information, leaving you wondering what the hell is going to happen. To make matters worse, they really don't answer many of the questions the viewer is bound to be asking by the last couple episodes....

I thought it was alright, not some amazing work of art in my books, but still a decent watch. I found Ed and Al to be likeable characters, and found scar to be a really cool semi villain.

All in all, if you like action, and don't mind a few cheesy jokes here and there, watch this series. It may not be the greatest thing you've ever seen, but it won't be the worst thing either.

*Potential Spoiler* Skip this post if you want no clue as to waht happend is the last few episodes*

Ok, now that I warned everyone...

My god the writers left the last episode like it there would be a sequel. I mean, they jsut leave us hanging..

"Will Ed ever return to his original world? Will he ever be reunited with his borther?"

GAHHH!!! I hate being left hanging, with nowhere to turn for anweres.

Yes I realize uber bump because this is on like the last page but.....2nd season just ended and I must say I cried for it. I won't really list any spoilers. Jas the movie is coming out on DVD, I think. And yes the Movie ties up loose ends from the story I believe from what I've read from ANN, fullmetal-alchemist.com, and some other links listed on ANN.

Spoilers from here on out in this thread.

Leave now if you don't want the plot exposed.

The fact that basically most everyone in that episode was a homunculus kind of annoyed me because the humunculi are spawns of Ed and Al's transmuation to bring back their mother when they were children. That's why Juliet Douglas resembles their mother. Maes dying just made me wince and his funeral was so emotional and tear bringing. Warn me if you must mods but this was a damn good episodes that everyone should see. Rest in peace Brigadier General Maes Hughes.

Huh. I never realized until this episode that he had no alchemist "powers". He just relies on his blade. It's a shame he died, he played a fine Mercutio.

It won't be long-lived >_>

It's 51 episodes long. The only addition is the movie coming out sometime this year (we hope).

Yay for the dub getting to the first of many depressing episodes.

Guys, it only gets worse.
