Well, technically, it is card-based, but it doesn't feel like a card-based game. They determine your attacks in battles and whether they are effective or not. It's still fast-paced, real-time RPG battle just like the original KH, but you actually have to collect your experience this time, because it spills all over the place in crystals. Don't let the "card-based" scare you, because I hate card-battlers and it scared me too... I love this game. I played it for 12 hours straight today, and the skin on my thumbs started peeling... no joke. Buy it. Now.

It's basically re-playing the PS2 version in a whole new way with lesser graphics and a small lead-in to KH2.
I wouldn't recommend spending the money on it, but if you feel like doing so, go ahead. The card battling is really just nothing different than mashing A to attack, just like the PS2 version. When you want to use magic or heal, you need to scroll through your pile and select the appropriate card. It's quite cheap that a heal card is in your deck everytime you refill it. ~Squeek |

I couldn't ever understand what was so great about Kingdom Hearts at all, but I'd say from general experience with great series that go card based (Metal Gear Acid sucked balls), don't bother.
