The only ones with beginner mode are MAX2 and Extreme.

obviously max2 or extreme... for reasons eric stated.
but, every version of ddr has light. so, on any version you can play simple 3-4 foot songs.

RE: Which is best for Beginners?
You can either get DDR Extreme, JP, or JP Plus. JP has more songs than the USA Extreme, but not as many as in the arcades. JP Plus, IS the arcade version, it has all 256 songs.
I would find and get JP Plus, there are more songs that you can practice on. |

Konamix was the first home edition of DDR released in the US so it is the hardest home version of them all. They get decreasingly easier through the series. the BEST for beginners is EXTREME. Easy songs/beginner mode...konamix and maxx both have harder songs for more experienced players. Konamix has only 2 one footer songs and 3 three footers and thats it. stick with extreme.
