Default Convince me to buy a 3DS XL

My finger is twitching on the "Buy Now" button. I want New Leaf and LttP. Buy the console @ $170 now, or hope the price drops in the next couple of months?

Should I get this right now, FFR?

Unless you really want the actual 3D capabilities, you could save quite a bit and just get a 2DS. At least, that's what I'll do if/when I get one.

I bought it solely so I could play Pokemon, haha. When I got it during Black Friday, it was around $150, so $170 isn't too far from that. If you're gonna wait till the next black Friday, that's quite a bit of waiting so I hope you have the patience for that :P I wouldnt place bets on the cost of the system to get much significantly lower though unless Nintendo comes out with a new system. If its a choice between a 3ds and rent, the choice should be obvious. If its the case that you have some spending money you could burn though, then go ahead and treat yourself

Ive been debating over the Vita and a 3ds for a couple weeks now. I think Im getting a 3ds because of pokemon, zelda, animal crossing and the new yoshi story and super smash bros.

You're failing to consider the opportunity cost of all the streetpasses you'd miss if you were to buy it months from now instead of today.

That's obviously the most important part.

I considered this and did some research on the 2DS. I don't like the fact that it doesn't fold up and is almost completely not portable. It's essentially an ugly brick.

That said, I don't really care about 3D. If I could get a 2DSXL that looked and functioned exactly like the 3DSXL does, I'd get it in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the advice though guys. I'm terrible at treating myself materially, even when I have the funds to do so. Receiving a little extra peer pressure is what I need.

I have no idea what a streetpass is. Does it do some NFC friend code add when you walk by someone who also has one?

My only flaw about the XL is the 3D looks off-centered compared to a normal 3DS, but it looks ok with it turned off. It's nice to have a bigger screen for these games though, and it has a better battery. And it folds unlike the 2DS, which is the main reason I don't like the 2DS personally. So other than the 3D, it's better than both the 3DS and 2DS in my opinion.

Streetpasses are like automatic downloadable content. Someone else could probably explain better than me.

Don't buy it for those two games
buy it for these

http://www.atlus.com/etrian4/
I spent a good 100 hours on this game just doing everything. The game plays like a classic RPG. You create your own characters, you go explore large dungeons while keeping track of map making.
Oh but the music
THE MUSIC

p.s. the extra dungeon in that game is the most terrifying thing I've seen in gaming. Not to be played/explored at 3AM in pitch black darkness.

http://www.runefactory4.com/
I'm STILL playing this game. I've probably poured 200 hours into this game and I still haven't gotten to the final arc. There are so many things to do in this game it's insane. Best installment of the Rune Factory series by far.

For those who don't know, it's a mash up of Harvest Moon + RPG.

http://bravelydefault.nintendo.com/
Comes out next month. It's like Final Fantasy 5 + Dragon Quest. It's damn good. The scenario is written by the same guy who did Steins;Gate. The Music is done by Sound Horizon. Much hype very wow.

Other honourable mentions (haven't played some of these yet but I know they're DAMN GOOD)

Damn, I'm definitely going to get a 3ds now. Getting so many games is going to be expensive, but whatever. I'll try and get them a couple at a time and actually play them for awhile before getting another. RPG games like that are some of my favorites and I haven't been able to find any good ones for android because I wanted to play them on a mobile device.

Thank you Pseudo Enigma. I love jrpg/rpg games, and my library is sorely lacking in that area. Those are some great recommendations and I'm definitely closer to justifying this in my mind now.

Yes.

I got my regular 3DS back on October even though I wanted the XL but it was $200 at the time. Maybe I should have waited for the price drop? But I don't regret it.

It's been around for 1 1/2 years. It first starting selling for $199USD. Maybe wait for the summer to see if it'll go down a little more.

But you probably made your decision by now.

They are $175 on amazon at the moment. To a huge discount, but it is something.

I got mine for $249 when it launched, didn't regret it. I only know this because when it dropped to $200 they gave us 20 free games for getting it so early. Teehee

Animal Crossing New Leaf is my first buy, because it was the console seller for me.

After that I'll look into either fire emblem, bravely default when it comes out, the new zelda, maybe mario 3D. The 1st party titles im pretty familiar with, not so much the 3rd party (except the ones pseudo enigma nicely pointed out for me).

Any suggestions?

Do you have a Wii U? If not, I also suggest getting Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. I've logged over a hundred hours into the game. It's a tough one, but it is a LOT of fun once you get used to it.

Not really, those are the ones I was likely to get as well. Perhaps one of the newest pokemons which would go under 1st party titles.

Bravely default was the seller for me. I hope I'm not disappointed. Having expectations often doesn't work out.
