And this on the same day Illinois legalized marriage equality in their state. I'm concerned that the language of the bill now offers exemptions for religions institutions: A so-called "license to discriminate" as it were. Still, it has to go to the full House, then to the Senate who must approve the House's amendments to SB1 before it goes to the governor.

It's funny you actually mention the exemptions for religious institutions though. I believe that individual churches should have the right to choose who they do and don't want to wed. Forcing churches to wed people they don't want to infringes on the church's religious freedoms; for example, forcing a christian church to wed a satan-worshipping couple would be unfair to the church. Also, if a gay couple were to be denied from one specific church, there are likely to still be a fair amount of churches that would take them (it's more money for the church). |

a church is still a "private" entity in a way. I don't go into mcdonalds and demand a whopper. as much as people disagree with their views, it's their decision.
I'm surprised some states are still living in the 20th century haha

Re: Reuben is flailing his flippers in happiness.
As once more the trivially easy solution to the problem of gay marriage versus religious institutions gets lost in the shuffle. One of these days some state is going to figure it out.

It's nice that people are finally realizing how trivial all of this should be, just like how things like voting rights for black people should be a trivial thing. I see absolutely no point in not giving particular people the same rights as others for things they either simply cannot change, or don't (or at least shouldn't be able to!) disturb others with. I'm glad to see how homosexuality as a whole is becoming a more acceptable thing in society nowadays. However, on a personal level, I don't really care much. I love my boyfriend no matter what society thinks about it.

Two adults of legal age should be able to marry regardless of sex or ethnic backround.
Just so everyone knows. |

In that case they are arguably not of sound mind.
