How do you count to three?
Using their fingers, I know some people who begin counting by picking up their thumb as one, index as two, and middle finger as three. I know others who starts with one using their pinky, move onto two with their ring, and then three with their middle finger. I'm sure there are other variations as well.
Personally, I start with one using my index, two with my middle, and three with my ring finger. How about you? |

Varies. I use index-start and thumb-start frequently.

Re: How do you count to three?
I knew a guy in high school who showed me how to count to 16 on one hand. When you look at the splayed fingers of the hand, you'll see that they're divided into three sections each. Using the thumb as a marker, he then started at the base of the finger for one, up to the first knuckle for two, then the second knuckle for three. Four would be the tip of the index finger, and the process repeated for each finger after that.
In case you're wondering, he was also that one guy (you all know or knew someone like that, don't lie) that went off to a community college to take courses that were beyond the scope of what your school could offer. |

Re: How do you count to three?
There's this 9 year old kid living near me that I help for his maths homework from time to time. I remember that he counted using first is index, then his middle, and finally his pinky, totally skipping the ring finger...!

Re: How do you count to three?
Index-to-ring. In German this year I learned that starting with your thumb is a German thing :P

Re: How do you count to three?
Left hand: thumb, index, middle, ring, pinky
right hand: thumb index, middle, pinky, ring This is because I can hold my index, middle, and ring fingers straight without holding my pinky down on my left hand. I have to use my thumb to hold down my pinky for my right hand so I avoid it by counting 4 with my pinky.

Re: How do you count to three?
That binary counting thing seems obvious now that i've seen it. I can't believe I never thought of that. Totally going to count that way now.
