Speed Mod Help
hey guys, i have played FFR for a long time but just recently came back due to school. I have always played on 1x speed and was wondering if i should switch. I tried switching before i quit for a while but my PA was absolutely horrendous. Also i was wondering what the best speed would be to not have to screen cut. I currently screen-cut about 2/3 of the screen on 1X speed. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: Speed Mod Help
Personally, I'd switch to 1.75 (that was what I did) and learn to play at that (just through loads of practice). When you're comfortable with it, keep moving up the speedmod until it's the fastest you can read and accurately play without it being TOO fast. For me I got up to 2.1 then realized it was too fast and gradually reduced back to 1.9, which I've been using for the last few months or so.

I also played on 1.75x for a good while. I'm now up to 2.25x lol. Most people can't read that fast but for me it really helps with accuracy. I'd try 1.75x for a while and get used to that then bump up a lil to see if that helps or hurts you and just experiment until you find your perfect fit.

Re: Speed Mod Help
I played on 1.75x for a while also. Now I'm on 2x but I think it needs to be a teensy bit faster.

Re: Speed Mod Help
I would give it a few days of practice... when you can reliably read and hit with your former 1x accuracy. Some might suggest dropping down to 1.5x, getting used to it and moving up from there but I and it seems a lot of other posters in this topic agree that 1.75x is a good starting speed, going down to 1.5x first will just slow you down.
Also, if you are screencutting, you aren't supposed to be screencutting at 1.75 (just putting that out there :P) |

Re: Speed Mod Help
Just takes practice to get used to speed mods. You might want to start low (1.25x) and work your way up slowly. Just keep working up until you find a speed that's comfortable for your own tastes. Some people like 1.5x, some people like 2.125x I personally use 1.8 for all around use and 1.85 for AAAing.

Re: Speed Mod Help
1x to 1.75x is a huge jump. Try 1.25, 1.5, and then work your way up to 1.75 and beyond if you so choose.
I use 1.75 myself.

Re: Speed Mod Help
You just have to get to a point where you dont feel like your accuracy is suffering. If your accuracy was just fine while using a screencut, why switch? For me, i had it dialed up as high as 2.3x, but only on songs which i had played several times. Then i found i was switching speeds on songs (a sightread would be 2x and familiar song would be 2.15 or 2.2). Then i realized that when i was getting goods i was usually late/behind. I have now returned to 1.75x, which i was using since speedmods were invented.

Re: Speed Mod Help
well i have tried switching for like 3 days and it just feels so weird. Some songs that i could FC on X1 i get like 300 goods and like 30 misses on so i don't know if i should switch of not. I like using X1 but people say that you can't do hard songs on X1

Re: Speed Mod Help
you can do hard songs on 1x it's just harder to read. The key is to up it in small increments.

Re: Speed Mod Help
ok so not the best example but like on 1X on Night of Flight i just sightread 1504-69-1-0-3 but on 1.75 it would probably be like 1200-350-20-4-20 or something..so i don't know if i should switch.

Re: Speed Mod Help
You'll get better, it's like switching to spread. 1x to 1.75x is a huge, huge jump. Practice on 1.25x for a while, then 1.5x, then move up again, and see if your PA doesn't jump.

Re: Speed Mod Help
Move straight to 1.5x with no screencut, and then move straight into 2.0x and deal with the speed increase. Even if you can't read it, after a few days, you'll get used to it.

Re: Speed Mod Help
Lots of people here are fast x.x
I started and stayed with 1.5x for a long time. Then, a month or 2 ago, I upped it to 1.6x. Just find the right speed for you and slowly increase it to your liking.

Re: Speed Mod Help
every time you change your speed mod your PA will suffer no matter what, but after you get used to it, your pa will be so much better then it ever was. You have to do bad for a little before you can improve

Re: Speed Mod Help
I started with 1x, bumped it to 1.5x, then up to 1.75x, up to 1.875x, up to 1.9x and recently went up to 2x.
It's all based on personal preferences. Regardless whether you like it or not, don't let scores like 300 clean shy you away from bumping up your speed mod. It's worth it if you are considering getting competitive scores on Very Difficult songs and higher (10+). |
