General Music Recommendation Thread
Well people seem to be making recommendation threads for themselves, so here's one for everyone.
In this thread, share your favourite music, whether it's just a single song or full albums. Either post links to listen or download (for downloads, just make sure that it's in the public domain and/or independent/freely distributable material). You just heard a song that gave you an eargasm? Post it in this thread. All genres are welcome. Pretty Lights - Passing By Behind Your Eyes It's hard to say what genre this is, but it's something like "glitchy hip-hop beats, buzzing synth lines, and vintage funk and soul samples." Really sick nasty tunes. http://www.mediafire.com/?wjgzj1ykm2m Sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=so7mYHZRVag Danny Byrd - Rave Digger Yeah, Danny Byrd new album. Fukin sick. In case you've been living under a rock and don't know him, he makes DnB/Liquid Funk. Here's a sample from his latest album. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6u1vq8xI1Vg Okinawa Lifestyle - Naha Chill/ambient electronic music. Really really good. http://www.mediafire.com/?yn3ytjzz5dy Sample: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0W1kU2U0zc

Re: General Music Recommendation Thread
Well it's better if you posted links of at least one of their songs like a sample instead of us looking for it on our own.

Re: General Music Recommendation Thread
incoming good music
Talk Talk - Laughing Stock one of the best albums ever released imo. credited as the start of "post-rock", but it's an entire beast of its own, weird jazzy ambient rock music that barely follows any of the "rules" that were set before it came out. after the flood - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9HsGsB-MCM myrrhman - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckNZljhwLfs also that pretty lights song sounded like dorian concept so, Dorian Concept - When Planets Explode super-weird hip-hop/electronic music. check it clap beep boom - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBrS-bacPtg al green - greatest hits sexy mother****er. some of the greatest soul out there--who doesn't love this stuff? let's stay together - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COiIC3A0ROM j dilla - donuts sick hiphop beats stacked on top of each other. some jazzy, some sampling oldschool soul songs, pretty much all of them awesome. rip jay dee time: the donut of the heart - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRcEFGNHW7Q janelle monae - the archandroid best album released this year so far. so eclectic that it's hard to sum up in a few words. how about awesome? cold war - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqmORiHNtN4&ob=av2e 57821 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yQgciCLaWU so theres some stuff |

Re: General Music Recommendation Thread
J-Dilla is cool, nice one.
Following the same hip-hop vibe, I listened to some good Hip-hop artists this year: Thavius Beck - Dialogue A great Hip-hop artist in an even greater Hip-hop album. Seriously, this one is effing good. Good and intelligent rhymes/MC'ing, great beats, smooth melodies. Here's a little sample from this album: Sometimes. - Antipop Consortium - Tragic Epilogue Another good Hip-hop album, released in 2000. M. Sayyid, Beans, High Priest and producer Earl Blaize do a nice job in this one, imho. Highlights go to Nude Paper and Sllab. - k-the-i??? - Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow The best one so far. Seriously, this guy's work is mindblowing. His rhymes, his beats, his music, everything is great. You guys who like Hip-hop should check this album out. Highlights go to Just Listen and Man Or Machine (Feat. Mestizo) That's it for now. |

Re: General Music Recommendation Thread
the beatles are fantastic--probably my favorite band of all time. i didn't recommend them in this thread just because I know you've all heard them.
What really got me into the beatles (though this may seem obvious) was just getting all their albums and listening through. i know you probably won't do that for a band you perceive as being bad, but maybe give it a try. they have a bunch of hidden gems you probably don't know, especially on the white album. "in my life" is probably my favorite beatles song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ukbbPJirTaE the harmonies, melody, and lyrics are some of the best ever. asphyxzero, what music do you like? also thats tight phael, i need to check out antipop consortium as well. i had a chance to see them at a festival but missed them. do you know flying lotus? i'm sure you do if you're into instrumental hip-hop at all, but he's sick--semisimilar to j dilla at points, but his beats are generally weirder and more futuristic (whereas a lot of j dilla sounds "antique", because of his oldie samples). you've probably heard him, as well as j dilla, on adult swim bumps, if you watch that channel: flying lotus - massage situation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oUx6wGCekM psychotik, i also suggest you check out the link above, i think you might like it. i can talk about music forever in case you haven't noticed. edit: also this flying lotus - robo tussin (samples lil wayne's "a milli"): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPallS7LMlE&NR=1 i don't care if you hate lil wayne like everyone on the internet does (i personally like him, for various reasons), this is sick. Re: General Music Recommendation Thread
I listen to IDM and ambient stuff, mostly. Generally, I listen to all forms of EDM. I also listen to metalcore and a very tiny bit of country.
I've listened to a bit of the Beatles, and I guess my previous statement was a bit of an exaggeration. I can stand the Beatles but I don't like them and I won't have their music on my computer. |

I honestly just cannot understand how when people say this. They have so much music that I can't find a reason not to like at least some of their songs.

Re: General Music Recommendation Thread
asphyx: cool, what artists? i don't listen to much IDM and would like some recommendations (i have a bunch of aphex twin, though)
ambient i listen to, though that's a pretty large genre and lots of times people refer to a lot of different things as "ambient". in particular, i ****ing love the album "and their refinement of the decline" by stars of the lid--really calming and gorgeous, though, as with most ambient, uneventful (which isn't necessarily negative). edit: wait, are you torrent? haha Last edited by RobertsonaIsBack; 10-23-2010 at 04:54 PM.. |

Seconded.
Edit: Actually, I just can't like their music, but I respect who can and does. |

Re: General Music Recommendation Thread
The Flashbulb is the no. 1 IDM artists out there. Samples of his work:
Dreaming Renewal Kirlian Shores God is Speaking Other artists I enjoy: Antoine Dufour. Folk Rock is what he calls his music. Hide and Seek (Acoustic Guitar Solo) Yoko Kanno. Not sure what this genre would be. I Do Asha - I Breathe the Cosmos Trance I breathe the cosmos Supercell JRock Sayonara Memories Galneryus Powermetal? I suck at classifying genres. Alsatia

Re: General Music Recommendation Thread
I know Autechre, my friend is more into them but I've heard a few songs. I'll check out Tri Repetae, it's always been on my list of albums to get.
Another friend recommended u-Ziq to me so consider that on the list. I actually know the Flashbulb, on sites like these that's almost a given, haha :P. He has lots of good stuff. I have Immolate Yourself by Telefon Tel Aviv. "The Birds" is so freaking awesome. Squarepusher I only have "My Red Hot Car", I should probably check out a full album. Bibio's Ambivalence Avenue, from which "Sugarette" comes, is one of my most played albums of 2009. AWESOME album. Boards of Canada are awesome. I've only listened to "Music Has the Right to Children" but have Geogaddi and Campfire Headphase as well. Thanks for the recs. I'll be sure to check some of them out. |

Terminal 11's "Fractured Sunshine" album for a more "glitch-oriented" look into IDM.
And, about Squarepusher, "Hello Everything" is pretty good too. Edit: Although he doesn't play IDM, Mike Sheridan is a cool artist too. Last edited by PhaeL v2; 10-23-2010 at 06:12 PM.. |

Re: General Music Recommendation Thread
It's breakcore time.
Ruby My Dear - The Dreaming Tree Absolutely incredible album by someone relatively new to the breakcore scene. This is a side project of another incredible breakcore artist, Doc Colibri. All of Ruby My Dear's, and Doc Colibri's albums are free for download. Here's the link to listen to the title track, The Dreaming Tree. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ZY_xXcG9Ww I Broke My Robot - Tomorrow Does Not Exist Yet another relative unknown in the breakcore scene, and this one is really sad, because this guy is truly amazing. His music is so, so good, yet not many people have really heard of him. Well, here's a link to a song of his that's on youtube, the title track of the album. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7fR1htb2U0 |
