Default I Need Some DnB Ears

I've been non stop working on music for days now and my ears are not fresh at all. Can I get some criticism on this DnB Track I'm working on? I'll give a detailed analysis on a song of yours if you like.

I like it except for when all the drums and synths go away it's pretty bland there. But I love the shifting accents.

The intro sucks. Sorry it does.
But at the start of the second half it's very good. Could use some more variation though. :P

Good Job on the second half.

I'll comment on the 'dnb' part of this tune.

EQ sounds a bit off. DnB generally tends to have a conflicting high-end and low-end. I don't really hear a good balance of either. IMO you need to add a sub under that reese (if there already is a sub bass you should work on bringing it out more because I definitely don't feel it). What I've done for more bassy tracks of mine also is add some kind of subtle mid-high-ranged synth to play along with the bass synth (in this case it'd be the reese). This generally will get rid of the "muddiness" that the reese creates when it's alone. I think there also needs to be more 'action' in the high-end, whether it be hats, rides, noise, or whatever.

DnB also tends to have a very stern kick (snares seem to be a bit more lenient). The kick in this track is extremely flimsy imo. I'm no drum n' bass expert, but from what I've heard kicks also seem to be highly compressed and sidechained to most high-end sounds to give it more dominance in the track. I'm probably speaking as if I know more than I actually do but here's my two cents rofl.

I don't like the beginning at all, bugs the crap out of that it speeds up like that... From a DJ perspective, trash. Don't do that. Stop speeding up the track haha

That and the initial synth, if you choose to keep it, should be spread more amongst the stereo spectrum, I like how you brought in the reverb though, maybe start bringing the reverb sooner. That and I don't like how the synth is side-chained to the reese-y base at the beginning.

When the track drops at :45 though, I will say that it definitely kicks ass.

Try to bring out the kick a little bit more though, the rest of the percussion is just perfect! Hard to give more comments until the track is longer, yknow.

One of the more industry standard sounding D'nB tracks coming from this forum though. (Once :45 comes around haha)

But yeah, keep up the good work. Take the suggestions to heart please. I assure you I will drop this track live (I spin D'nB and DubStep a couple times a week) once you finish this thing completely.

Like others have stated before add something or shorten that "empty" part in the beginning and don't do the speed up thing. Other than that sick ass song man keep it up.

By the way, also wondering, what DAW you use by chance? And any VST VSTi's you use primarily? I'd like this to be a good example for the rest of the hopefuls out there wanting to produce D'nB.

(Please don't say Fruity Loops, although I fear for the worst haha)

I have been getting a bit into FL because a buddy I collab with uses it heavily. It's an excellent studio, I don't know why it gets such a bad rep, but I notice the same people who say bad things about Buzz also say bad things about FL..

Anyways.. the song.

It needs more drit and grit to the sound, the drums need to stand out more when the beat drops. I'm not a huge fan of the progression, I'd make it darker, but that's probably a personal preference more than anything. Your leads are rather dull, like they don't have much edge to them and that's a critique I have of a lot of people. It's not a harsh slap in the face, it's just generally overlooked. Your sounds are capable of being dynamic, there's so much you can do with filtering that will really spice things up.

The beginning intro is just fine. You could arrange it different to help keep the initial build going, but that's a lengthy explanation in itself. Just ignore the people who don't understand songs over 3 minutes in length, they don't know what they're talking about.

I liked it. As someone who listens to DnB a lot..

I'd say it's good. I liked the beginning, I'm not sure why everyone is saying they don't, it's kind of like "easy listening d'nb" and then it drops and gets awesome. But it feels like there's something missing though.

I can't put my finger on it...:/

keep working on it though.
