Default Deadly April Fools virus watch out!!!!!!!

Quote form FOXNEWS

At some point on April 1, the Conficker virus, which has quietly infected millions of PCs worldwide to herd them into a "botnet" of linked machines, will phone home for new instructions.

What it'll do next is anyone's guess. It could muster enough silicon firepower to take down any Web site on the planet, or send out enough spam to fill the inboxes of every e-mail user on Earth.

It could offer itself up to the highest bidder, mostly likely an Eastern European cybercriminal. Or it could do what it's been doing for months — nothing.

"The biggest mystery about Conficker is 'Why?' What exactly is it that these bad guys are planning to do with it?" asked security expert Mikko Hypponen, of the Finnish company F-Secure, in a conversation with the Times of London.

So watch out tomorrow, me I'm not getting on the computer at all. My computer is staying off all day.

Yeah, it's name (Conficker) comes from configuration, and "ficker" is the German word for "f**k". = Configuration f**k. The only preparations you can take are to download the update from windows for protection, run any scans you may have; then shut off your computer and keep it off. For tomorrow, possibly Thursday if you wish. (To be safe). It's main objective is to disable all updating softwares (windows update, scan updates etc) take any information it's gathered from being on the computer for months, and when it is activated tomorrow it will send out all information. (ex: internet passwords, banking information, etc). If you have not yet downloaded the update, here is a link. There may not be any updates available for you, and that would be a good thing showing you're completely updated.

Hasn't it been established that keeping the compy off and disconnecting from the internet and whatever else won't stop it?

It's been stated and since it's gathered information dated from when you first got it (if you have it) it has that stored. There is currently no possible way to remove it but disconnecting from internet and turning off will help because it will have no way to send the information to the main base. Windows currently has a $250,000 USD bounty on the conviction and arrest of the writer of the worm. It's also real, and not an April Fool's joke as some people think; because Conficker-A and Conficker-B have been real, and B wiped out 9-million computers, C is over 30 times longer and 5x more elaborate (judging by how many different types of coding were used) and it is encrypted twice with C++ and salts, making it impossible to de-code. So disconnecting from internet and turning off computer WILL help, but there's no telling what will happen when you turn back on. Judging on how technical this worm is, when you turn back on your computer might send everything out THEN instead of on April 1st.

Yeah you probably should, but nobody knows the exact time because of it's encryption, but my guess would be within the 2 seconds when every zone in the world has the same day. EST this would be 11:59:58-12:00:00, etc. but that's just my guess. It'd probably be best to shut down for now. Which is what I'm doing now since I won't be using comp for the rest of the night. Good night everyone, see you after the CyberApocalypse is over!

Unplugging your internet and turning your comp off won't work. It's a worm...when you turn it back on it's just going to do it then anyway. Nothing positive will come out of turning it off except you're computer will be safe while it is off. If it ****s your **** up just reformat, and hope it got no personal information.

And TeRa...a computer virus can be deadly. It can just overclock your hardware so hard it dies =/

i was going to leave my computer off all day tommorow, but then i realized i have to write a paper. so it stays on, just not connected to the internet. but that's probably not going to do any good cause i'll have to reconnect eventually.

i plan to play a few more games, get a little bit enjoyment out of the internet tonight, one last time. it's been nice knowing you, everyone. may God be with you, and good luck on the eve of the Apocalypse.
