There's a lot of compatibility issues transferring stepmania or FFR to a tablet or mobile device. I forget exactly what was the issue with it (presumably some files are unreadable on mobile devices that are part of the core processing in stepmania / FFR (.ogg?)) and probably a developer such as arc or velocity would be able to shed light on that for you.

fyi, Android (and somehow Apple?), have .ogg compatibility. I think literally the only reason why there isn't a market for touchscreen Stepmania/FFR is because of functionality.

I think honestly the reason behind it is because everyone who plays it will end up having to play downscroll, otherwise their hands will be in the way of the notes when they come at you.

Being forced to play downscroll is totally a boon rather than a trouble since playing the game will learn you to read what's the canonical scrolling direction for every keytap rhythm game ever tho.

nahh, the decline in popularity of arcades in most places killed arcadey rhythm games and their simulators.

and when I say "kill" I mean led them to become unpopular. niche games are still games.

I don't see that being a huge problem? Put some buttons at the bottom of the screen, have arrows scroll from just above those buttons up to the top of the screen.
