Re: J-Rock
I don't listen to any certain band. If I find any J-rock, I listen to it once, and then I move on.
Also, I'm spanish, so spanish rock is fine to me.

Second of all, yes, they do listen to it just because it's from Japan, or they wouldn't call it "j-rock". I listen to music from lots of countries, but I don't feel the need to label them by nationality because nationality has absolutely no effect on music (outside of nationality-based genres, but this is irrelevant here). Acting like rock is a completely different genre when it's played by Japanese people is what makes you a weeaboo. Third of all, line breaks in the middle of sentences don't make you cooler or more artistic or unique sorry

Re: J-Rock
Agreed. It would be more appropriate if 'j-rock' was split into different sub-genres. Rock from the U.S. isn't necessarily called Western Rock, so j-rock shouldn't be called j-rock. Somebody find the sub-genres of 'j-rock' and post them. Then, discussion over.

Asian Kung-fu Generation's pretty good, they've made a few hit anime songs like Naruto's Haruka Kanata, and Full Metal Alchemist's Rewrite. Nightmare's good for a more metalish feel. Bivattchee's great but they dont have too many songs. Finally for the more tranquil songs, Home Made Kazoku tops my charts. I never did much get into Dir en Grey or Gackt.

Re: J-Rock
This was two months before I discovered Touhou. Now I listen to Touhou J-rock artists such as UI-70, SSH or Demetori + more.

Re: J-Rock
Back in the days when I considered myself weaboo (see: 13-15) I listened to all sorts of JAPAMUSIC. I can't remember all the names, but I specificially remember listening to:
Malice Mizer Psycho le Cemu Schwarz Stein Dir en Grey TM Revolution Pretty much visual kei garbage. I also listened to some random pop stuff for kicks (pretty much anything from Hello!Project). These days I still have a folder specifically for japanese music but I barely go into it anymore except for YMCK. Most of if not all of my music has some correlation to the Usagi-Chang record label (Capsule, Plus-tech Squeezebox, Sonic Coaster Pop, YMCK etc) Now all I ever listen to is acid 8)

Re: J-Rock
I haven't heard any and I will certainly look into it.
I suppose there hasn't really been a definite answer as to why it's always referred to j-music. To be honest, its not really the fact that it's from Japan or singing in said language. It has something to do with the attitude of a lot of it and how the music is presented in general. I don't know many bands from other parts of the world, particularly of western culture that dress up in ridiculous outfits, play skits and have as much amazing live crowd interaction as some of the bands I've seen. Maybe that's just the Visual Kei stuff. Yeah really if I made some sort of rock band here with the styles and attitude that a lot of Japanese-based bands have, I don't think it'd ever pass (then again, Dir en Grey has started touring and releasing albums in the US, right?). Maybe it's the language barrier that stops the general public from listening to it.

Re: J-Rock
I couldn't agree more with Tokzic. I believe the denomination was set because the music is japanese and not because the bands do things differently. I know my fair share of j-whatever music but it's really no different from music of the same genre from another country. Country-whatever denominations are often used because there is a large amount of people who listen to it and refuse to listen to anything else. Same things applies to K-whatever.
Hey, I listen to C-Polka! What's that? Canadian Polka. No way, that doesn't exist. .. =( Judging music because it's from a specific country is downright retarded. Also, HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR is the best japanese rock band ever. |
