Re: :(
As I said on AIM, I'm really sorry to hear your loss there. Especially with the stuff you cannot retrieve via online methods. Hard to find anything else to say, considering you've tried the solutions posted online for unmountable_boot_volume.

Oh god that sucks so hard. Failed hard drives are such a bitch to deal with. Sorry
Note to self: Get a new HDD... off-brand drives don't usually last 4 years so this thing should die on me any moment now

Re: :(
If that's just a blue screen all your data is still on a probably perfectly fine hardrive in the computer. You can:
A) Plug that hardrive into another computer while it's off, turn it on, then use it like a USB to retrieve all your data B) Get a live Linux boot disk such as Ubuntu to retrieve all your files. If you need help email me at mspalmer12@gmail.com |

Re: :(
Kayla, a year ago, the exact same thing happened to me.
My motherboard was destroyed and tens THOUSANDS of pictures were lost. Unlike me, did you at least have everything backed up on an external harddrive? |

Re: :(
I spent over six ****ing hours on this piece of shit. I don't understand how the hell it nuked everything the way it did.
I tried chkdsking only for it to hang multiple times, I tried sfc scan, only for it to not let me use it - I tried the offline command, it didn't work -- I tried examining partitions to see if there were any sort of discrepancies between active and inactive partitions -- noted that the main drive wasn't active for some reason; also noted that the drive was RAW instead of NTFS, which was an absolutely lovely sign... ...drive status was healthy but I simply could not get it working. It didn't help that the stop error code parameters were retardedly long and I couldn't look them up. Being that they're typically 8 characters long, I tried splitting them up to see if I'd get any sort of similar parameters...didn't work. Tried startup repair - it said it couldn't do anything. When we tried accessing the drives within the Load Driver option, just to see if the C:\ drive was still intact (early on, hoping that it was a broken boot.ini/MBR), it hung. yet, the drive is still reading as healthy. I ****ing quit. -_- |

Re: :(
well the stupid thing is i have an external and i normally back stuff up but this computer is barely a year old and showed NO signs of dying. i was just on firefox, it froze and i was able to do other stuff on the comp but restarted cause ff wouldn't unfreeze and next thing i know it wont boot.
I'm just upset cause i lost a lot of vids and photos of saphira, wips of files and stuff in flash and photoshop, plus like quite a few days worth of work for some events and stuff for here and school stuff to boot. |

Re: :(
Fido: @ linux, that was one of my earlier solutions - the problem with that is that I'm running Ubuntu 10.04, and for some STUPID reason I can't get any of my drives to mount. I've been trying to fix it for months now and I can't seem to do it. I knew that would have been a quick solution, but it wasn't something we could do.

Re: :(
I know I thought of samurai's video when I saw that lmao. My computer does it on the regular but it always goes back to normal. The only thing you can do is get a new laptop man, it sucks but that's your only option.
