Places to buy Japanese goods from
Nowadays I usually ask my friends in Japan to get stuff for me and ship it here. However, not everyone has that luxury. That said, I wanted to get a list started of places that people know where they can buy Japanese stuff from, and have it internationally shipped (or local to their country). To start off, here's a few:
shiro_ryuu Online Akibado (http://www.akibado.com/index.html): Pretty cool place. There's 2 services, import and auction. With import, they search local stores, buy the products for you and ship them to you. For auction, they'll do Yahoo Japan auctions, but you have to pay an advance deposit before the auction closes, plus a full payment 48 hours after it closes. Takes Paypal (recommended) plus other bizarre forms of payment (International Money Wire and Western Union). YesAsia.com (http://www.yesasia.com/): Not just Japan, but also Chinese, Taiwanese and other goodies. Their Anime assortment is kind of weird.. Chinese versions of anime.. Oh well, their manga is Japanese :S AmazonJP (http://www.amazon.co.jp): Great place to find popular items, like games and songs from record label artists. Doujin items get hard to come by. Main downside is the large shipping costs you'll hit CDJapan (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/): Mostly CDs as the title suggests. I don't get many CDs from major labels (I like amateur artists with freely available MP3s more), so I don't know what the shipping is like. Kinokuniya (http://www.kinokuniya.com/): A major bookstore in Japan. They have branches in the west/east coast, so shipping isn't as painful. What you end up paying for is import fees. Sometimes stuff is spread across different stores, so you end up having 3 different orders (all with separate shipping costs). That said, check the AmazonJP price before you think your total cost is going to be cheaper. Offline Little Tokyo (Los Angeles Area) charless Offline Japantown (San Fransisco Area) Nyokou Online AnimeWild (http://www.animewild.com/): Figures, Accessories, Model Kits and Food. There's DVD's and Manga, but they appear to be translated. Music might still be the original Japanese, but I can't tell. chunky_cheese Online SensAsian (SensAsian.com): "Sensasian.com is an online store and entertainment resource offering an extensive and diverse range of popular Asian entertainment products, primarily music and movies." GoodsFromJapan (GoodsFromJapan.com): "GoodsFromJapan is the place to visit for lovely presents. Beautiful Japanese gifts from Japan & the Far East mailed direct to your business or home. Ranging from practical items such as electronic dictionaries and watches to ornaments and accessories hand-made by Japanese artisans." OneHandNow Online PlayAsia (www.play-asia.com): Mainly game related items, like games themselves, soundtracks and art books. Let me know if you guys know of any others and I'll add them in. Make sure to note what it is the place offers too.

Re: Places to buy Japanese goods from
Well, we're going to assume not everyone has that luxury. Plus unless you take a trip to Japan every weekend, there's still going to be stuff you might want to buy from there when you come back. Got friends? Great, you can ask them to help. If not, you're back to step 1 :S

Re: Places to buy Japanese goods from
You can list up everything that you want for about a year, save up and work for the expenses, and travel to Japan in the summer. It's what I did once. I spent over $10000 on it, I think. I bought extraordinary amounts of stuff, and had to ship it back to New York... XD.
PS: Most of this money went to food, surprisingly. PSS: Gratz on OSTER's visit to your mixi account. PSSS: You don't find anime in America... unfortunately. Avatar is the closest that I know of.

Re: Places to buy Japanese goods from
Why would someone want THAT MUCH japanese stuff? I'm sure there are plenty of equally awesome goods right here at home. And I'm not blindly ignoring the japanese fad that's going on, my girlfriend's sister will buy crates of things "Just because they're japanese". Not to forget that there's a ton of electronic dance music too . So with that said, if you're looking for manga, videos, stuffed animals, keychains, you name it, a good place to check would be a book or comic store. You'll be surprised at what you can find there.
SensAsian.com - "Sensasian.com is an online store and entertainment resource offering an extensive and diverse range of popular Asian entertainment products, primarily music and movies." GoodsFromJapan.com - "GoodsFromJapan is the place to visit for lovely presents. Beautiful Japanese gifts from Japan & the Far East mailed direct to your business or home. Ranging from practical items such as electronic dictionaries and watches to ornaments and accessories hand-made by Japanese artisans." (I hope I'm linking good places) Last edited by chunky_cheese; 05-12-2008 at 10:16 PM.. |

Re: Places to buy Japanese goods from
Found a cool site, Akibado, that will buy stuff off yahoo auctions japan or local stores for you. Need to compare their fees and shipping costs against AmazonJP though. Not sure how the comparison will work.
