Playing FFR at a talent show
My school is holding auditions for a talent show the 21st and the 22nd of December and I am actually considering playing FFR at auditions. I talked about it to a couple of my friends and they all said I should do it. Plus once and a while when I have free time at lunch I go to our schools computer room and play FFR. People around me are actually amazed(even though I'm not that good) and don't actually think I'm the one playing and that its just some video I have up as I just smash the keyboard lol. I talked to the person in charge and he thought it was a ridiculous idea to play a video game at a talent show and he liked it (I tried to explain a little but more about it what it was but failed miserably). He said he would allow it but because he does not know exactly what it is I have shortened amount of time to impress.
The song must be.... • roughly 3 minutes or less (not counting setup time) • School appropriate (no bad words) I'm level 64 but if i'm trying to impress an audience that does not play rhythm I can go up to level 70 with an FC. If I make the cut I will make another post with more information will be given at the talent show like how long we have, when the date is, etc... 30,000 credits will be awarded to the person's song that gets picked for auditions (credit prize will be bigger if I make it in the talent show). Everyone has until the 20th of December 12:00AM server time to submit their songs to this thread. Credit for the idea to play FFR at a talent show goes to Gold stinger His talent show thread http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/...d.php?t=129878

Re: Playing FFR at a talent show
If I were you, I'd go for a song you can PA well on command.
I'm seein' a decent score on Nebula [Rushjet] and having played in front of people for fun at college, people liked watching files like that one. Especially if you can commentate while you play. It's also a really fun song to play a lot of times, so the whoring factor is there It's also like 2 minutes long. Edit: Feel I should clarify something. I picked an easier song because yeah playing hard shit looks cool, but there's no point in that if you end up making a mistake and screwing up the whole file. Which gets easier to do as the files get harder. I assume you have one to MAYBE a restart if it's quick plays of this. Last edited by XelNya; 12-12-2015 at 11:56 AM.. |

Go for it dude, and good luck! Borderline D4/D5 is better than you think it is!
Also for song choice, there's a lot of options out there, but I may go with X-Tinction, because it's a very short 64 that's not stupid to play unlike Purple! |

Re: Playing FFR at a talent show
i'd go for a song that you are comfortable AAA'ing cuz tbh anything above 30 is gonna look impressive to someone that doesn't play rhythm games. my personal fav's in the 60's range would be EOS, but that's just me. if you wanna go a bit harder, ambient angels is a great choice also like alloyus said.
edit: scratch everything i said, if you can pull off a sick vertex beta score, that would be frikin amazing. im still impressed when people can AAA that lol

Re: Playing FFR at a talent show
I really over estimate what skill lvl is actually impressive to people because I'm worried that people would be unimpressed if I did something lower than a 65. I know that sounds ridiculous but that's how I see it.

I played FFR in the science lab one time back in high school to show off - and I am literally the shittiest player in this thread. Played Elements in science - it was a hit, and people still were mind boggled. I'm like are you serious? They think it's some unattainable feat of the God's to smash arrows lmao

Re: Playing FFR at a talent show
Ambient Angels is a fantastic choice if you can reliably FC it. You should definitely choose something that gets progressively more difficult over time so that you'll continue to wow your audience even as some of them start to think 'surely he can't go any faster than this'.
If you want to go hardcore climax theory, something like Destination of the Heart would definitely drop everyone's jaws as soon as the ending jumpstream takes off, but if you pick this be sure you can FC the 200bpm jumpstream most if not all the time. Alternatively you could pick something technical with a lot of colours. A lot of my friends who don't play these games seem to think the more colours in the file, the crazier it is. We Wish You A Merry XMas (which, coincidentally, is also quite appropriate to pick this time of year) accomplishes this. But if you're going strictly for wow factor, my vote is for one of the former two since nothing beats tried and true climax theory. |

Re: Playing FFR at a talent show
Go for 300, especially if you can FC it. Starts slow, gets people thinking 'I could do this' then gets faster, and faster, and by the end you're slamming the keys at 300bpm and people have their jaws on the ground.

Re: Playing FFR at a talent show
Streams seem to impress people way more than anything else, pick the fastest stream file you can do rather than a slower jumpstream file with the same difficulty.

Re: Playing FFR at a talent show
As a person who has done a set before at a talent show in the same fashion.
You should pick a song that you are 100% comfortable with, hitting at a decent speed, of a song that a lot of people like (not just you will like), and has both slow parts that average people can account for, and fast parts that makes people question your sanity. If you could get an SDG consistently on Death Piano then that would be a good example of the type of song you could play at a talent show and get away with it. Also thankies for credits on putting FFR in talent show please get a friend to video record the experience as my friend never actually got his phone back. btw, for exact song recommendation, I recommend something creasted by OSTER Project, something along those lines I forget how the actual artist name is spelt. Re: Playing FFR at a talent show
Serenade is the PERFECT song to play in front of unsuspecting people. The file is very quiet and easy for the first quarter then starts ramping up. It's right around your skill level and it will cause people in the crowd to believe that they are capable of doing it when you start, but they will have floored jaws by the end (presuming you play well )
Not to mention, the song itself kicks total ass. Quote:
I dare say the file is too hard for the OP to play reliably in a public setting. I didn't even FC it when I played it and I was top 8 D5 at the time. -- It really is no question in my mind that given another opportunity to play in public like that, I would pick Serenade without a second thought... even though I could get away with playing something much harder.
