Sliding Speed Bar?
Well, if you recall back in the time that you played R2, you would remember the scrolling speed bar that was in the options menu.
Personally--I play FFR on 1.5x because I cannot read 1.75x very well (I would love something in between XD). This would be a nice benefit for those much denser songs (higher speeds, but you have control), and for those songs that have very few arrows, like the Synthlight charts (rely more on reflex when 2x is too slow and 3x is too fast.) I highly doubt this will be considered, but it would stop all of the people who complain about there not being a good solid speed. |

I never played R2. Someone care to explain this?

Re: Sliding Speed Bar?
The green bar can be moved around, the closer you get to 6, the higher the mod gets, etc. Obviously, I think FFR would only need 3.5-4x or so. |

Re: Sliding Speed Bar?
R2 and R1 work off of different engines... i'm pretty sure something like that wouldn't work with R1. although I have talked with synth about adding stuff like 1.87, 2.25, and 2.5

Re: Sliding Speed Bar?
Well, the way I think about this: every mod on the R1 options menu is selectable--where as R2 is selectable and can be slid around too. Wouldn't it be the same if you integrated all of the mods in between 1x and 4x, and then integrate all of that into a slide bar, kinda like R2?

Very Grave Indeed

Re: Sliding Speed Bar?
It sounds like Tass is suggesting that in order to do that you would have to individually add 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc in order to make a slidey bar for R1 which seems a little excessive, when simply adding a few more interim mods should satisfy the majority.

Re: Sliding Speed Bar?
Ha, that's exactly what I was saying myself. That is true, it would be a lot of work. At least add some important speed mods though.
I'd love to see 1.625x (1.63), 1.875x (1.88), 2.25x, 2.5x, and 2.75x in the game, as there are some songs where these "in-between" speed mods, can be used. There are quite few songs that have dense patterns, where we wish we can read a tiny bit higher without ruining the amount of reflex needed to do the patterns themselves. |

Re: Sliding Speed Bar?
The slide bar in R2 is like a multiplier of the bpm like how stepmaina multipliers work. R1's speed mods are like cmods in stepmania. Just saying so no-one gets confused.

Re: Sliding Speed Bar?
As Tass said, I don't see the slider being implemented, but a few more speed mods would be lovely. I play 2.0x currently and I know I can read faster, just not as fast as 3.0x
I read C825 on SM, so on FFR, I'm thinking in the relative area of ~2.5x or so.

C900-930 Distant, a 2.5x/2.25 would be oh so lovely.
Though it would work a lot better with a higher framerate. (I'm impatient, go go go.) |

Anyways, yeah, higher frame rate <3 Though, I wonder if people's timing would get off a little though. I say this because when my friend plays at my house for example, his accuracy goes to hell. We've found(from tests on other computers) that this is due to higher FPS. You see, I play with VSync off, since my computer isn't as good as his. He has it on, so he gets whatever the average FPS with VSync on is and I get 80-100 FPS, in game. Just something to think about.

Re: Sliding Speed Bar?
the other difference is that R1 works off of 30 frames/second, and R2 doesn't. R1 is also Cmod and R2 isn't. etc etc.
much harder to do speed mods so that they don't look retarded and glitch in R1. for the most part, they need to be relatively "even" numbers... well, percentages really.

Re: Sliding Speed Bar?
If it's based on percentages though, couldn't you just multiply in terms of the percentage?
Let's say FFR's base mod (1x) is C300. So then couldn't you just do percentages to get the other mods based off of that percentage (1.5x being C450, and 2x being C600, etc.)? |

Re: Sliding Speed Bar?
I dont think 1.5 , 2x and 3x are even exactly that. 2x might be like 2.1523 and rounded off so that it would look right.

Re: Sliding Speed Bar?
You can't even tell sometimes. You know, I was planning on mentioning this in a separate thread, but if you play on higher speed mods, you will notice that some of the arrows are not spaced evenly, even on constant songs. It's weird. I'll try to get a screen shot of this in a replay of mine, and what better to do it on my very own stepchart, Coactive, where I am 100% sure that there are no speed changes? :P
