Talking My first song that I stepped! Please feedback!

http://www.mediafire.com/?7j4uyjaur08guc1

I stepped a song by DJ Simba, a dubstep artist that I recently got permission from to use his songs in FFR. I sent an e-mail to ffr submissions with this same exact simfile, can someone tell me how good or bad it is? It's my first so don't be too harsh

If you release this file publicly, like you are now, it wont be allowed into FFR.

I'll take a look at it.

EDIT: Kiwi does have a point. Then again, The Others (sent by Darkbreezee) was allowed into the batch after he released it in the Simulator Files forum. I do recommend looking around for people to test your files rather than blindly posting it - that way, you're more likely to get a response and you won't have to worry about your file being publicly released.

Another thing that should be mentioned is that the batch currently is closed, so you file submission will unfortunately be ignored. Wait until the batch reopens then send it again (if you're allowed to, as per what ninja and AJ (Halogen) said).

This is a pretty complex song to have as your first stepfile, props for setting the bar high for yourself. The file isn't bad, but agreed that it needs work. Difficulty inconsistencies, some parts get boring, and you will need to cut the part of the song that you're not using. The 12th parts were pretty good though and had a good drum line to follow.

Well, I played through the file and well, it has a lot of potential BUT...it has missed the mark. Just need to work on consistency. Also, the last 192nd hand, that should be either a 64th or a 96th since that's completely off.

Not bad for a first attempt, but definitely not up to par for the FFR Batch. Keep at it though .

Well uuhh.. it's not nearly as bad as my first file ever, but it's gonna need to have some serious polishing before it's batch ready.
First step: cut it because judges are buttheads as far as song length and repetitiveness.

lmao this song is hardly complex haha. dubstep would actually be a pretty good genre for beginner steppers to start in lol

what you listed constitutes as a bad file

I'm going to have to politely disagree with you there, but this song specifically would be good to start with.

But this is different, I completely agree with you there WC. The song is nice enough, and the flow on parts of the chart are great but it still needs a lot of work before I'd even consider submitting it myself.

Like everyone said not bad for a first try, in fact this is pretty good for a first shot if you asked me.

If anything I say is contradicted by Halogen, Whocares, someone who has a good deal of charts into the game, do what they says over me, chances are they know more than I do.

Note: I use a program other than Stepmania to step (Dreamstudio) so I'm going to be giving you the time location.

Things to note right off:

- Your offset is wrong. It looks good to me at 0.033 seconds but if someone skilled says something else do it.

- I agree with where you started actually stepping the song. :3

- In the section of 5.176 - 6.890 remove the 8th notes. There is no notes on those arrows. These are called Ghost notes I think. (For future reference.)

- In the section of 21.033 - 32.604 you are doing some correct 12ths which is great, but the issue here is that when there's a 12th gallop you're not jumping the snare like you are everywhere else. I recommend adding the jumps on all the snare hits in this section.

- 33.462 - 34.319 those 64ths are cool. But the issue here is that the first one is placed correctly (later than the actual note) and the other two are placed early. You should either place them all on the quarter note or 1/64th beat after the said quarter notes. I also am iffy on using hands here - something Halogen will probably have a better idea on.

- 35.604 - 48.033 Here is a similar issue to the snare jumping I pointed out earlier. Except here you start minijacking the 12th notes, but then suddenly change that to something else. You should either minijack them all in this section, or make them all non minijacks. (My personal thought would be to use the minijacks throughout this section, but this is honestly up to you.)

- 48.033 - 61.604 I like what you're doing here note wise, but I personally think you can switch the pattern a little. Halogen can give you more advice here, but I like this section's concept though also please unjump the 3 12ths in the time frame of 61.319 - 31.604 it doesn't look like it fits.

- 62.176 - 67.747 I would put all these quarter notes in a line on the same beat, but I am personally unsure if this is subjective or not.

- 68.604 I would put a hand (three notes at once) or a jump here. I'm sure you'll figure out which one fits better :3

- 68.604 - 75.462 (With the exception of 68.604 it's self) please start jumping the snares again to be consistent with the earlier spots. (All the snares are on quarter notes, if you put one on a 12th you're doing it wrong.)

- 90.890 - 91.319 here is what I would do with this section:

I'll leave the rest for you to figure out, and please keep in mind that these are merely suggestions. It's your chart, you don't have to take everything I say as law. :3

Good luck to you :3

Mind you that everything he is telling you is merely suggestions not obligatory changes please for the love of god dont do anything he or anyone else says without taking into consideration how his changes affect your outlook on the file and how you personally wanted the file to turn out

Carlos, I know you're really good at stepping, and instead of just blatantly calling me stupid and horrible at it, give him better advice than I did.

im not saying you're giving horrible advice im just saying he shouldnt automatically make changes to his files based on peoples reviews ~*REGARDLESS OF WHO THAT PERSON IS WHETHER ITS ME AJ PATASHU YOU KAYLA OR ANYONE*~

im not saying he shouldnt listen to you im saying he should consider it but not outright accept the changes being given

Carlos is right about the dubstep being an easier genre to chart - rhythms are typically more straight forward.

EDIT: and yes, other than incorrect rhythms/sync/offsets, everything else is subjective and should be changed at your own discretion! Be aware that consistency in structure is always a good thing, though.

Thank you all for the advice and talk. I do believe I will start completely over. I am still also new to all of this FFR lingo (jumps, etc.) Soo.....yeah :\ was kinda hoping for a different response haha. More positive? Idk. Should I try a lower difficulty?

EDIT: Screw lower difficulty. I'm going to make this song good. It would be sooo cool to have a song stepped by me on FFR, and so I'll keep reaching for that goal by finishing this song! I'll def. take into what Midnight said into consideration. Dreamstudio won't work for me, and I....amd kinda used to Stepmania. Sooooo....wish me luck I'll be sure to have some closer people (friends) or pm someone to test my file. Thanks again everyone!
